The research group in Advanced MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) consists of radiologists, clinical colleagues in rheumatology, neurology, pathology, MRI physicists, PhD students, postdocs, and several international colleagues.

Job Responsibilities and Duties

As a PhD student, you will work on four projects within the framework of a doctoral thesis in the field of advanced MRI imaging for patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The tasks include:

• Investigation and analysis of cerebellar atrophy and its impact on cognition.
• Mapping the extent of white matter changes in the brain of SLE patients.
• Responsibility for a newly started MRI and clinical study on SLE patients focusing on depression, brain fatigue, and pain. This includes analyses of advanced MRI sequences to study neuroinflammation as a possible cause of these symptoms.

The position involves close collaboration with the research group and provides an opportunity to develop both clinical and technical expertise in the field.

Qualifications

The following are required for the position:

• Ongoing or completed medical education
• Attended summer research school
• Knowledge of the department's post-processing program Eval-Gui, and other in-house processing programs, CNS-VS (a neuro-cognitive test), MATLAB.
• Broad computer skills
• Good knowledge of the disease SLE
• Knowledge of brain atrophy analysis in SLE patients
• Knowledge of how to view MRI images of the brain.
• Previously published scientific article.

Meritorious are:

• Additional university credits beyond the medical program
• Previous knowledge of the department
• Previous work with MRI images in SLE.
• Previously published articles in MRI and SLE.
• Participated in conferences and presented scientific papers.
• Previously worked with CNS-VS, MATLAB, Excel, and created PowerPoint presentations
• Previously viewed MRI images for research purposes
• Previously worked with SLE patients.

Eligibility

Basic eligibility for doctoral education is granted to those who have: completed a master's degree, fulfilled course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at the advanced level, or in some other way acquired substantially equivalent knowledge within or outside the country.

Assessment Criteria

Regulations for employment as a PhD student can be found in the regulation SFS 1998:80. Only those who are admitted to doctoral education may be appointed. In the appointment, emphasis shall primarily be placed on the degree of ability to benefit from the doctoral education. In addition to the obligation to engage in their own doctoral education, the holder may be required to perform duties related to education, research, and administrative work according to specific provisions in the regulation.

Conditions

Fixed-term employment for four years according to HF 5 chap. 7§.
