to apply for the job
Join us in the work to improve the environment in our lakes and waterways!
We are looking for two employees: one with a main focus on working with partial action programs for better water in one of the county's main catchment areas, and one to develop background material and test a new method for classifying valuable waters. The positions are for a permanent appointment and a fixed-term appointment, respectively.
The Water Unit
You will be part of the Water Unit within the Nature Department. The unit consists of nineteen dedicated employees who handle water issues from a broad perspective. We deal with everything from water management, water supply, action coordination, liming, biodiversity, eutrophication measures, environmental monitoring and environmental goals, to national systems for water information. We disseminate knowledge about the county's waters and contribute expertise both within the County Administrative Board and in society.
Job Responsibilities
Sweden is investing in increasing efforts to reduce problems with eutrophication through various types of measures, restore physically affected aquatic environments, recreate wetlands, and adapt hydropower to the environment. These measures are necessary to achieve local, regional, national, and international environmental goals. The County Administrative Board in Jönköping is well ahead in this work, but needs to step up further. Therefore, we are looking for new dedicated and competent employees who can strengthen our team.
We work with clear goal orientation and distribute tasks based on competence, interest, and opportunities. The main focus of the positions is described below, but tasks can be adapted to your competence and experience. You will be part of a working group, the preparatory secretariat, which works with water management and water resource planning.
Partial Action Programs and More
You will work with action planning and the development of catchment area-based partial action programs. The work involves creating descriptions of impact, values, ongoing action work, and prioritizing action needs in collaboration with neighboring counties, municipalities, and other actors for one to two main catchment areas in the county. You will participate in anchoring the plan and driving the implementation of environmental improvement measures in our lakes and waterways.
You will process applications for local water protection projects (LOVA), review reports, assist applicants, and work to ensure good applications for the right measures in the right places. Other potential tasks include supporting the preparatory secretariat and working with the Drinking Water Directive and the regional water supply plan.
Valuable Waters
You will contribute to developing background material and testing a new method for classifying valuable waters. The material will be used as a basis for prioritizing the protection and restoration of water, and as a knowledge base for the County Administrative Board and municipalities when handling cases related to water. The work involves handling large datasets and geographic information in GIS.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who have a university degree in natural sciences or engineering, or equivalent, with subjects such as biology, limnology, fisheries biology, hydrology, environmental science, or ecosystem technology.
Previous experience or in-depth knowledge of action work in aquatic environments, water management, coordination or project management, processing of grants, or investigations in water is meritorious. Knowledge of GIS and experience in handling large and complex datasets in Excel is also meritorious.
The position requires that you can express yourself well in Swedish, both orally and in writing. It is desirable that you have a category B driver's license.
We place great emphasis on your personal qualities. Since you will collaborate both internally and externally, you need to have good teamwork skills. You need to be structured but also flexible, as several different tasks are included in the positions. You are responsible, have good judgment, and are engaged in the substantive issues with the ability to independently prioritize and drive tasks to completion.
Conditions
The positions are full-time. One position is permanent and the other is a fixed-term appointment of approx. 6 months. We normally apply a 6-month probationary period for our permanent appointments. Start date is as soon as possible after agreement.
Other
Work samples will be used in the recruitment process.
Similar positions are also being recruited for the Fisheries Unit – please apply for those as well!
