About the Company

Vattenfall is one of Europe's largest producers and retailers of electricity and heat. Our main markets are Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, and the United Kingdom. The Vattenfall Group employs approximately 21,000 people. For over a hundred years, we have electrified industries, delivered energy to homes, and transformed lives through innovation.

About the Role

As a Privacy Legal Counsel, you will play a key role in one of Europe's largest energy companies, where data protection and privacy are integral parts of the ongoing energy transition towards a sustainable society. Here, you will have the opportunity to develop within an international and socially vital operation with high ambitions and significant impact. You will become part of Vattenfall's Nordic legal department, comprising around 25 colleagues across various specialist areas. This means you will work closely with experienced lawyers and other experts, with broad interfaces across borders and business areas.

As Privacy Legal Counsel, you will join our group-wide data protection team, the Group Data Protection Office. The team is responsible for strategy, frameworks, governance, and monitoring at the group level, and plays a central role in supporting Vattenfall's Nordic companies in their data protection work. Here, you will have the opportunity to combine legal expertise with business-oriented advisory services and contribute to solutions that make a real difference to Vattenfall's data protection efforts.

Your responsibilities and areas of responsibility:

  • Provide qualified legal advice and support to business areas and support functions in the Nordics regarding personal data processing and the application of data protection legislation, for example in connection with new digital initiatives and AI solutions.
  • Stay up to date with regulatory requirements, practice, and guidance from supervisory authorities, and translate these into practical guidance and training for the business.
  • Support the business in reviewing data processing agreements and other contracts or documents where data protection issues need to be handled.
  • In collaboration with other lawyers in the Group Data Protection Office and the group's Data Protection Officer, contribute to maintaining and further developing governance documents, templates, and processes within data protection, as well as supporting audits.
  • Develop and manage system support and produce statistical data for data protection work within Vattenfall.
  • Identify and provide legal support regarding data protection risks in the operations of the Nordic companies, in connection with DPIAs and other risk assessments.
  • Handle personal data incidents.
  • Collaborate closely with data protection coordinators, lawyers, IT, information security, and other relevant functions to ensure a cohesive and efficient data protection effort.

Requirements

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A law degree.
  • Approximately 2-3 years of experience working with data protection issues and GDPR.
  • Experience from other areas such as AI, IT, contract law, consumer law, information security, project management, process development, etc., is considered an asset.

We are looking for you who is solution-oriented, independent, and able to prioritize wisely when conditions change. You thrive in a role with many interfaces, where collaboration, curiosity, and the ability to build trust are important parts of everyday life. Here, you will have the opportunity to influence, develop, and contribute to solutions that make data protection understandable and relevant for different parts of the organization. We believe you are communicative, engaged, and confident in adapting your message to the recipient. Proficiency in both Swedish and English is required.
