Teacher for After-School Center at Emanuel School, Sjöbo

Our 1,300 employees play a vital role in the development and well-being of Sjöbo. We continuously strive to become a more attractive and equitable employer, offering our employees a wide range of wellness benefits, smoke-free working hours, and flexible schedules where possible.

Emanuel School is a primary school (grades F-6) located in central Sjöbo with approximately 350 students. Here, we work together – students, guardians, and professionals – to create a safe, inclusive, and developmental environment where all students have the opportunity to succeed.

We view the after-school center as a central part of the students' education and development. Through teaching, play, movement, and meaningful contexts, students are given the opportunity to develop social competence, creativity, independence, and confidence in their own abilities. At our school, the after-school center is not an activity alongside the school but an important part of the students' entire day.

Linguistically developing approaches, value-based work, and preventive student health work permeate the operations. Through collaboration, analysis, and reflection, we continuously develop our teaching.

"I see the after-school center as one of the school's most important arenas for student development. As a teacher in the after-school center, you have the opportunity to make a difference every day by building relationships, sparking curiosity, and strengthening students' self-confidence and hope for the future. At Emanuel School, we are developing an after-school center where teaching, quality, and student influence are at the center. We are looking for you who want to make a difference and shape the future after-school center together with us."
– Emma Walters, Principal

Job Responsibilities

We are looking for you who want to help develop an after-school center where teaching truly makes a difference.

As a teacher in the after-school center, you will become an important part of a dedicated team of several certified after-school teachers. Together, you will plan, implement, and develop teaching based on the after-school center's mission and the students' needs, interests, and prerequisites.

You will share responsibility with a colleague for the operations in grades 3-6 and have the opportunity to further develop both content and learning environments. During the school day, you will be involved in the school's break activities and work with active breaks. Emanuel School participates in the Movement Initiative and sees movement, community, and well-being as important parts of the students' school day. Our ambition is to launch School-IF. We also value creative activities, culture, and aesthetic learning processes that contribute to students' creativity, expressive ability, and desire to learn.

The role includes, among other things:

  • Planning, implementing, and developing teaching in the after-school center.
  • Creating safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environments.
  • Promoting students' learning, development, and social competence through play, movement, creativity, culture, and aesthetic expressions.
  • Strengthening students' influence, responsibility-taking, and democratic skills.
  • Planning and implementing break activities that contribute to safety, movement, and community.
  • Collaborating with guardians, colleagues, and student health services.
  • Contributing to the development of the after-school center's operations and pedagogical content.

Why Choose Emanuel School

  • You will become part of a competent team with several certified after-school teachers.
  • You will have the opportunity to influence, develop, and leave your mark on the operations.
  • You will have space to use and develop your strengths in areas such as movement, creativity, culture, music, and other aesthetic learning processes.
  • The after-school center has a clear and important role in the school's educational mission.
  • You will work closely with school leadership, student health services, and dedicated colleagues.
  • With the forest around the corner, proximity to a skate park, playgrounds, and sports halls, you have great opportunities to create varied and creative teaching where learning takes place both indoors and outdoors.
  • You will get to make a difference for students every day.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who:

  • Are a certified teacher in after-school education.
  • Have good knowledge of and experience working based on the Swedish National Curriculum (Lgr22).
  • Create safe, accessible, and inspiring learning environments.
  • See relationships as the foundation for students' learning and development.
  • Are engaged, proactive, and curious in your pedagogical mission.
  • Have clear leadership skills and a good ability to create structure.
  • Are a team player who contributes to collaboration and development.
  • Communicate well in speech and writing in Swedish.

Merits:

  • Experience with language and knowledge-developing approaches.
  • Experience with digital tools and AI in teaching.
  • Experience with development work in learning environments, inclusion, or student influence.
  • Experience with break activities and movement-promoting activities.
  • Interest in or experience with creative activities, culture, music, drama, or other aesthetic expressions.
  • Eligibility to teach in one or more subjects.

Personal Qualities

You are driven by making a difference for students and see opportunities rather than obstacles. You are secure in your professional role, unpretentious in collaboration with others, and have the courage to try new ideas to develop teaching and operations.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

Interviews will be held on August 6 and 7.
Salary: Monthly salary.

We value the qualities that diversity and equal gender distribution bring to the operations and therefore welcome applicants with different backgrounds and life experiences.
