Job Description

The position involves both experimental and numerical studies within fracture mechanics. The experimental work focuses on developing new specimen geometries to study defect evolution, specifically void nucleation, under a broad spectrum of stress states, using advanced X-ray-based computed tomography (CT) in both destructive and in situ experiments. Initial studies are conducted using the department's own micro-CT equipment and are later expanded to synchrotron experiments in collaboration with national and international partners. The experimental results will then be used to develop improved models for damage evolution in continuum-based non-local material models, adapted for implementation in finite element models for fracture analysis. These models will be applied to study the ductile-to-brittle transition in HSLA steels.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A completed PhD degree or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a PhD. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
  • In addition to your scientific skills and teaching ability, a relevant doctoral thesis, international experience, and proficiency in English are necessary as they are required in daily work.
  • We are looking for a highly motivated and collaborative postdoc with a strong background in experimental and computational fracture mechanics. We expect the candidate to work independently, present and disseminate research results at international conferences and through scientific publications in high-ranking journals, and demonstrate high scientific accuracy and integrity. The role involves close collaboration with colleagues from various disciplines, support for PhD students, and the ability to analyze and handle complex challenges in a professional manner.

Qualifications

  • At the final application deadline, no more than three years have passed since the PhD degree or an equivalent foreign degree was awarded.
  • Experience with mechanical testing and X-ray-based computed tomography (CT) at the micro- and nanoscale is desirable.
  • Good knowledge and experience in nonlinear numerical analyses using FEM.
  • Awareness of diversity and equal treatment issues, with a particular focus on gender equality.
  • Collaborative skills.
  • Independence.

We will place great emphasis on personal qualities.
