Job Description

Work within an EU project to develop next-generation models for forecasting transport, emissions, and health by integrating deep learning, explainable AI (xAI), and various data sources such as traffic sensors, smart card data, and behavioral surveys. You will work directly with several municipalities and regions to design, implement, and further develop monitoring and evaluation protocols, including monitoring frameworks for pilot activities, ensuring that analytical results align with local needs and operational conditions.

The role also involves contributing to project management, preparing reports, supervising research engineers, and collaborating closely with other project members.

The two positions will contribute to complementary but distinct research directions:

  • Transport, Energy, and Emissions This direction focuses on modeling and forecasting how transport activity interacts with energy use and emissions over time.
  • Transport Emissions and Health This direction focuses on understanding and forecasting the health consequences of transport-related emissions.

In both positions, the overarching ambition is to further develop large-scale transport simulation models into next-generation transdisciplinary models that integrate energy, emissions, and health models, enabling comprehensive and long-term impact assessments.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A completed PhD degree or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a PhD in transport science, urban planning, data analysis, programming, or a related field, with a genuine passion for transport challenges and innovation. This requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
  • Documented programming skills for developing data-driven simulation models and AI systems.
  • Ability to develop frameworks for monitoring and evaluation as well as data collection.
  • Excellent command of English, both spoken and written, as the working language of the project is English.
  • Good ability to plan and prioritize work, as well as meet deadlines.
  • Ability to formulate strong research questions and approach problems with creativity and critical thinking.

Personal Qualities

  • Skilled in complex analytical methods, e.g., forecasting and simulation models for transport, energy, and health.
  • Experience in teaching and supervision.
  • Very good communication skills.
  • Awareness of issues related to diversity and equal opportunities, with a particular focus on gender equality.
  • Collaborative and structured.
  • Capable of working independently and driving tasks forward.
