The Project Manager within the IT Department plays a key role in developing and ensuring modern, business-supporting IT solutions for all of SLU's operations.

About the Role

The Project Office currently employs 14 specialists with expertise in project and portfolio management, requirements analysis, test management, software asset management, and environmental work. As a Project Manager here, you are responsible for leading projects and management objects with a holistic perspective and user focus across the university's various operational areas. This can range from developing information systems supporting national environmental monitoring and animal husbandry, to maintaining and improving integrated student systems to ensure a good digital work environment, or developing reporting services for species observations within nature conservation work. Your primary task is to lead the work of improving and developing our IT solutions so that they best meet the needs of the business. Automation and efficiency are central parts of your work to achieve the best possible results.

As a Project Manager here, you will:

  • Be responsible for cost-effective development and management within your projects and objects, carried out in collaboration with colleagues and suppliers. You ensure that solutions are accessible, user-friendly, secure, and comply with applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Support the business with an IT perspective in various issues and initiatives.
  • Contribute IT-related requirements during the procurement of IT solutions.
  • Plan, prioritize, and execute activities within the framework of your project or object.
  • Coordinate goals, assignments, and activities with other projects and objects.
  • Calculate, monitor, and report costs for your projects and objects to portfolio and object management.
  • Produce documentation, such as project plans, feasibility studies, management plans, and decision support materials for changes and initiatives, and present these to the client and steering group.
  • Be responsible for coordination and contract follow-up with external IT suppliers.

We work agilely and in a DevOps context. The position is located in Uppsala. Travel is included in the role.

Who are you?

To fit into the role, you need to be a structured leader with the ability to drive through decisions to efficiently lead projects and management. You have a strategic holistic perspective where you combine a technical orientation with process and operational development. You understand the interaction and flow between employees, IT solutions, and regulations, and how they together create value. You are receptive, creative, and analytical in your problem-solving.

To succeed in the Project Manager role, you must have:

  • A university degree in e.g., systems science, or alternatively other education, background, or competence that the employer deems equivalent.
  • Several years of experience in project management, financial monitoring, and automation/digitalization.
  • Documented experience of delivering system support in roles such as project manager, product manager, portfolio manager, object manager, system administrator, or equivalent competence.

Since all our documentation is in Swedish, you must speak and write Swedish fluently.

It is meritorious if you have:

  • Experience working at a university or other public authority.
  • Experience with Power BI, ERP/Unit4, Antura.
  • Experience in project and portfolio management within data hosting, environmental analysis, and citizen science.
  • Experience in steering and specifying requirements for external/internal IT suppliers.
  • Experience in public procurement and purchasing of IT solutions.
  • Experience in agile work, such as SAFe certification.
  • Worked with PM3 or similar management models.
