Workplace Description
We are looking for a motivated and engaged Project Assistant for a newly established research group at the Faculty of Medicine and MultiPark, Lund University.
The research group studies how microglia dynamically modulate neural circuits, thereby affecting memory formation and extinction under normal conditions, in psychiatric conditions such as anxiety- and fear-related disorders, and in neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.
The successful candidate will work at the interface between circuit neuroscience and microglial biology, utilizing advanced methods such as two-photon microscopy, chemogenetics, behavioral assays, and transcriptomics.
The research group offers a stimulating and international research environment with close collaboration within both the Faculty of Medicine and MultiPark.
Responsibilities
As a Project Assistant, you will work on research projects under the supervision of the research group leader. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting research projects within the group's field of study.
- Performing in vivo imaging of microglia.
- Planning and conducting behavioral experiments on mice.
- Analyzing activity data from neurons and microglia, such as calcium imaging data.
- Performing immunohistochemical analyses.
- Conducting morphological analyses of microglia and neurons.
- Participating in the group's scientific activities and contributing to the development of research projects.
The position offers excellent opportunities for continued scientific development within the research group.
Qualifications
Requirements for the position
- Master's degree in neurobiology or a corresponding relevant field.
- Documented practical experience in in vivo imaging of neurons and/or glial cells.
- Experience in research within microglial biology.
- Experience in behavioral experiments on mice.
- Good skills in data analysis.
- Documented experience with animal experiments and surgical procedures on mice.
- Experience with RNA sequencing and analysis of sequencing data.
- Good ability to communicate orally and in writing in English.
Merits
- Experience with calcium imaging and analysis of such datasets.
- Experience with transcriptomic analyses.
- Experience working in interdisciplinary research environments.
- Scientific publications in the relevant field of research.
What We Offer
Here you will have the opportunity to work in a creative and international research environment with access to advanced infrastructure within neuroscience and imaging.
We offer:
- A stimulating work environment focused on scientific development.
- Supervision and mentoring for continued career development within academia.
- Support in grant applications and the development of an independent research profile.
- Access to modern research and imaging infrastructure.
The employment is a fixed-term appointment for one year on a full-time basis. Start date is by agreement, preferably as soon as possible.
Application
The application should include:
- A cover letter describing your previous research experience and motivation for the position.
