Economist in International Trade and Economic Analysis (2 positions)
Swedish National Board of Trade (Kommerskollegium) is Sweden's authority for foreign trade, trade-related international development cooperation, the EU internal market, and trade policy. We work among other things with issues such as the EU's sanctions against Russia, opportunities for Swedish companies to import and export, and poverty reduction through trade.
At the Swedish National Board of Trade, you will find yourself in an international environment where major trade policy issues are mixed with concrete problem-solving for individual companies and individuals. Our vision is sustainable trade without barriers. At our office in Stockholm, more than 110 employees work.
Unit for Economic Analysis
You will become part of the Unit for Economic Analysis. The unit consists of about ten employees with a background in economics, primarily working with general equilibrium modeling, econometrics, and descriptive analysis of statistics on goods and services trade as well as direct investments. The unit also conducts analysis and investigation work on sustainability issues that affect or are affected by international trade.
Responsibilities
Do you want to be part of our team, driven by understanding the dynamics of the world economy and how trade shapes everything from competitiveness to security policy? Now you have the opportunity to become one of our investigators leading exciting projects and analyses, sometimes on behalf of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
In the role, you will specifically contribute to mapping and analyzing how the EU's external trade policy and the functioning of the internal market affect Swedish and European competitiveness, as well as international trade development in general.
Using Swedish and international data, you produce both longer, more qualified analyses and investigations as well as shorter analytical assignments. Sometimes you do this independently, and at other times you work together with colleagues at the authority. You also analyze the effects of trade policy measures, regulatory changes, and other changes in the external environment to highlight their consequences for Swedish and international trade and competitiveness. It may also involve finding out and pedagogically demonstrating how major global events affect international trade flows.
You enjoy working against various long deadlines and sometimes need to put other things aside to work focused on quick analyses during short, intensive periods. Other times, the challenge lies in producing more thoroughly worked-out and in-depth analyses. The changes in pace constantly give you the opportunity for new challenges and provide a chance for new knowledge and growth in your role within the organization.
You become one of the unit's key players and, in your role, have the opportunity to build and maintain external relationships. An important part involves presenting investigation results to decision-makers, industry organizations, or other important target groups.
Our focus lies on international trade issues, and your assignment may sometimes involve participating in meetings or projects in other countries, both within and outside the EU, for example related to our cooperation with developing countries. In addition, you can expect other tasks within our area of responsibility, where you get the opportunity to broaden your experience further and contribute to our overall mission.
Are you ready to become part of an organization working to influence international trade policy?
Qualifications
We are looking for you who have a university degree in economics, at least at an advanced level, or other education combined with experience that we assess as equivalent. A PhD in economics is considered an advantage. You must have extensive experience in quantitative economic analysis work at an authority, international organization, or other relevant institution connected to the Swedish National Board of Trade's area of operations.
You have experience in data processing, analysis of large datasets, and can apply microeconometric methods. Experience in applied econometric analysis within international trade is an advantage. If you have worked on policy issues related to trade policy, this is also an advantage. You enjoy working with both quick assignments and longer, investigative analysis work.
You are result-oriented and thrive working towards ambitious goals, ensuring that work is carried out with high quality within given timeframes. You also have an easy way of expressing yourself orally and in writing in English and can make analyses and investigations appealing to a broader audience. Good knowledge of Swedish is an advantage. You take initiative, have good teamwork skills, and a solution-oriented approach. Furthermore, you have a good ability to structure complex information and produce clear, well-thought-out materials and investigations that drive the work forward.
