Gaskeuniversiteete/Mid Sweden University is located in the heart of the Southern Sami area in Saepmie. The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences is a cross-regional department with operations at Campus Sundsvall and Campus Östersund. The department's activities include research and education in the subjects: English, Gender Studies, History, Criminology, Literary Studies, Social Studies, Sociology, Political Science, Swedish as a Second Language, and the Swedish language. Research is conducted within each subject as well as within the Risk and Crisis Research Center (RCR), the Forum for Gender Studies (FGV), and DEMICOM.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities of a University Lecturer include teaching and supervising undergraduate students in Political Science. The teaching is primarily conducted on the Östersund campus, with a focus on policy analysis and public administration. The position includes competence development and administration in accordance with the current collective agreement on working hours and local guidelines.
Qualifications
The candidate appointed as a University Lecturer must meet the requirements described in Mid Sweden University's employment regulations.
To be eligible for appointment as a University Lecturer in Political Science, the candidate must have completed a Master's degree in Political Science or a closely related field equivalent to at least 180 higher education credits, undergone university-level pedagogical education or acquired equivalent knowledge in another way, and demonstrated pedagogical skill.
The ability to teach in Swedish is a requirement. High presence at the workplace in Östersund is required, as is the ability to teach at Campus Sundsvall when needed.
Assessment Criteria
The assessment criteria for the appointment of a University Lecturer are based on the level of skill required for eligibility for the position. The assessment of pedagogical skill should be given equal care as the assessment of other eligibility requirements.
Merit points are given for previous experience of teaching Political Science at the university level or in related subjects. Experience of teaching in English is also considered a merit.
Particularly meritorious is experience of teaching in public administration and policy analysis. Particularly meritorious is also good knowledge of narrative policy analysis.
Personal Qualities
Since the position involves significant student contact and collaboration with colleagues, social competence, good teamwork skills, and good communication skills are important. As the position will involve course responsibility and teaching several different courses in parallel, you must be able to work independently, adapt easily to changing circumstances, and have a good ability to plan your work. We place great emphasis on your personal qualities.
Other Assessment Criteria
Experience of working with IT systems for distance education at the university level is considered a merit.
Processing
The processing of the appointment follows the forms specified in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and continues in accordance with Mid Sweden University's employment regulations.
Employment and Start Date
The employment is a fixed-term special appointment of 50% of full-time from 2026-08-17 to 2027-01-17, or as agreed.
