What will you be working with?
As an Investigator in the Department of Microbiology, you will work with infectious agents in risk groups 3 and 4. The role includes:
- Providing expert support regarding risk group 3 and 4 pathogens, particularly regarding the diagnosis of hantavirus.
- Conducting research on risk group 3 and 4 pathogens from a health threat perspective.
- Performing documentation, risk assessments, and training.
- Collaborating with researchers, actors within the health and social care sector, as well as national and international partners.
- Compiling and authoring results in scientific publications, internal reports, and presentations.
- Contributing to standardized protocols and guidelines for diagnostics and research.
- Participating in acute outbreak investigations as needed.
In addition to this, other standard duties for investigators at the agency are included.
Who are we looking for?
Requirements for the position:
- Doctoral degree in medicine/natural sciences.

Great emphasis is placed on:
- Experience as an independent research leader in virology with a focus on risk group 3 and 4 infectious agents.
- Personal qualities such as excellent teamwork skills, responsibility, thoroughness, flexibility, and good communication skills. You have a holistic perspective and a welcoming attitude.
- Research merits in the relevant field, including supervision of doctoral students and postdocs.
- Documented experience of working in a Biosafety Level 3 laboratory.
Significant emphasis is placed on:
- Experience of working in a government agency.
- Very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
What does the unit do?
The unit is responsible for emergency and infectious disease diagnostics of bacterial and viral agents. The unit maintains 24/7 readiness for general or public health threats of a serious nature where the possibility of cure or prevention is limited and there is a risk of infection.
The unit is also responsible for the operational management of the safety laboratory. The responsibility includes education and training for work in the laboratory, support for the development and implementation of diagnostics regarding highly pathogenic viruses, as well as the execution and coordination of research in and in connection with the safety laboratory.

About the position
You will be employed as an Investigator with a placement at our office in Solna. The employment is a permanent position at 10 percent of full-time. Commencement is as soon as possible according to agreement, and no later than August 1st.
As an employee of the Public Health Agency, you may be assigned to wartime duties. Some positions are classified security levels where Swedish citizenship may be a requirement. Security clearance will then be conducted in accordance with the Security Protection Act (2018:585).
At the agency, there may be an opportunity to conclude an agreement for remote work up to 40 percent of your working time.
