The Department of Environmental Sciences is one of the larger departments within the Faculty of Science. The department consists of four units with just over 170 employees, including researchers, teachers, doctoral students, and technical/administrative staff from more than 30 different countries. Research and teaching are conducted within environmental chemistry, ecotoxicology, atmospheric science, and biogeochemistry. As an employee at the Department of Environmental Sciences, you will become part of a dynamic environment with world-class research and a strong international profile.
Research at the Unit of Biogeochemistry focuses on carbon and nitrogen cycles, as well as heavy metals in soil, freshwater systems, and the sea. The unit has a strong and long-standing research focus on the impact of global warming in the Arctic, with an overall goal to improve knowledge of these systems and future projections of their biogeochemical cycles.
We are now recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to complement our team, with a focus on plant-soil interactions in tundra environments.
More information about us can be found at: Department of Environmental Sciences (#).
Project Description
The project focuses on how changes in vegetation distribution on the tundra can affect soil carbon and nitrogen turnover. We address these questions through a series of experiments on the Canadian tundra.
Responsibilities
The postdoctoral researcher will work with samples from ongoing experiments in the Canadian tundra. The work will include sample collection, analysis using various biogeochemical tools, data processing, and manuscript writing. Teaching and supervision of, for example, master's students is possible.
Qualifications
To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, a completed doctoral degree or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a relevant doctoral degree is required. The degree must be completed no later than when the employment decision is made.
Assessment Criteria
It is advantageous if the doctoral degree or equivalent was completed no more than three years before the last application deadline. If there are special reasons, a previously completed degree may also be considered advantageous. Special reasons include leave due to illness, parental leave, trust positions within trade unions, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical service or service relevant to the subject area.
During the appointment process, particular weight will be placed on scientific competence.
About the Position
The position is full-time and permanent, but for a minimum of two years and a maximum of three years. Earliest start date is July 19, 2026.
