Nature Conservation Agency seeks you to contribute to a better living environment

The Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management (Naturvårdsverket) drives and coordinates work for a good living environment together with others. With us, you get to contribute to the important work of achieving our vision – to create a good living environment for humans and all other living things, now and for future generations!

We are looking for an additional team member to work on developing guidelines for habitat types! These guidelines form the foundation for implementing the EU Nature Restoration Regulation. The Area Protection Unit works on establishing national parks, guiding county administrative boards in the creation of nature reserves, in the designation and assessment of Natura 2000 areas, as well as matters of national interest for nature conservation. We contribute to the implementation of the EU Nature Restoration Regulation, including the protection of valuable habitats.

Your responsibilities

This announcement concerns a temporary reinforcement of the unit. You will join a working group and primarily work on developing guidelines for terrestrial habitat types. It may also become relevant to support a project regarding the mapping and status assessment of habitat types. Other tasks may also arise.

The position involves many external contacts, primarily with county administrative boards and the SLU Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences' Species and Habitat Database (Artdatabanken), but also with other actors.

Your qualifications

Requirements:

  • You have a relevant natural science degree at the university or college level, with a focus on biology/ecology/landscape ecology or equivalent.
  • You have at least three years of experience working with nature conservation issues within nature conservation planning, mapping of nature values, or protected areas.
  • You have experience in project management.
  • You express yourself well in both speech and writing in Swedish.
  • You must be able to use English as a working language.

Merits:

  • Knowledge of and experience with nature inventories and nature value assessments.
  • Experience working with guidelines.
  • Experience working with the protection or management of nature.

Personal qualities

We place great emphasis on your personal qualities. You who apply should have a good ability to collaborate with external actors as well as with a variety of colleagues with different perspectives and competencies. You are results-oriented and have a systematic approach to work. You have good written communication skills. You demonstrate good self-leadership by acting solution-oriented and working independently.

About the employment

The employment is a fixed-term full-time position until December 31, 2026. The placement is in Östersund or Stockholm. Start date is by agreement. We apply individual salary setting.

Travel within Sweden may occur.

Application

When you apply, you will answer a number of selection questions linked to the requirement profile in the advertisement. Your answers are used as part of the selection process and can determine whether you move forward in the recruitment process or not. Therefore, it is important that you answer as thoroughly and clearly as possible. We do not use cover letters in the selection process because we want to focus on your experience and competence, which contributes to a more efficient and fair recruitment process. In your application to us, you attach only your CV.

We warmly welcome your application no later than June 26, 2026.

Contact

If you want to know more about the employment, you are welcome to contact Maano Aunapuu, Head of the Area Protection Unit. You can also contact our union representatives for Saco-S or ST. All can be reached via customer service, tel. no. 010-698 10 00.
