At Wendesgymnasiet A, there is an individual program and a national program (vehicle program) within the adapted upper secondary school. In the adapted upper secondary school, special pedagogical interventions are required with a focus on each individual student's needs and prerequisites. The school staff possesses specific competence regarding various disabilities. The position is a permanent position.

Your role with us

As a student assistant, you work to help and stimulate students in need of special support towards learning, development, and independence, both individually and in groups, using a low-affective approach. The work involves creating a safe environment and framework for the students with a focus on studies and conditions for developing cooperation and relationships in school. The work is carried out on behalf of the responsible teacher based on the curriculum for the adapted upper secondary school. You support students throughout the entire school day, both in the classroom and during breaks and in the leisure center, in meal and hygiene situations, as well as during other lessons.

The work involves constant attention, analysis, and understanding of situations inside and outside the classroom. In close collaboration with teachers and other student assistants, you strive to find individual solutions so that every student can benefit from the teaching in the best possible way. Understanding each other's professional roles is of utmost importance. Contact and cooperation with guardians is an important part of the work, as is actively contributing to the workplace's development and taking responsibility for your own personal competence development. The work can be physically demanding and mentally stressful.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for you who have one of the following:

• Upper secondary school diploma from the Child and Youth Program with a focus on pedagogical and social work
• Passed the vocational package Student Assistant within adult education or equivalent education as a student assistant within folk high school
• Degree/passed from equivalent education that the employer deems sufficiently extensive within pedagogy and children's development and learning.
• Meets parts of the educational requirements and has at least three years of work as a student assistant

You need to have experience working with people with functional variations and be sensitive to the student's needs. Understanding the role of a student assistant is required, as well as good pedagogical skills. We want you to have experience from similar tasks or other work experience. We would like you to have documented experience from working as a student assistant. Knowledge of the curriculum is meritorious. Knowledge of PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) is a requirement, as is knowledge of challenging behavior.

It is meritorious if you have:

• It is an advantage if you have knowledge about handling, for example, epilepsy or diabetes.
• Knowledge of care and hygiene situations
• Knowledge of digital communication aids.
• Knowledge of hypersexual behavior
• Knowledge of visual and hearing impairments

You need to be able to choose courses of action within the pedagogical methods and techniques the school works with. We also want you to have the ability to enthuse, motivate, and stimulate the students in their development, as well as have a good ability to meet children of school age. You are a patient, balanced, and stable person with a professional attitude and can handle arising situations in a safe and calm manner. To succeed in your role as a student assistant, it is important that you can take responsibility, be empathetic, and have the ability to cooperate.

Since the work can be physically demanding, it is required that you have good physical fitness and are a swimmer. Since you escort students to and from activities, you need to be able to cycle and have a B-driver's license for manual transmission.

In order for us to be able to decide on your application, you must attach degree certificates/grades for your completed education. When we want to offer you the position, it is required that you show an extract from the police's criminal record register so that we can employ you, according to regulations in Chapter 2, Sections 31-33 of the Education Act.
