Description of the workplace
In the English subject area, you will meet a team of about thirty employees of varying ages from different parts of the world. They work with English linguistics, English literary studies, English language proficiency, academic writing, teacher education in English, and English for Specific Purposes (ESP). We are a very active department in both research and pedagogical development, and we are keen on ensuring that everyone enjoys working here and has the resources required to do a good job.

Duties and responsibilities
The position includes teaching (80%) and competence development (10%).
The candidate for this position is normally expected to hold at least a Master's degree in English with a literary focus. However, applicants with at least a Master's degree in related fields, good knowledge and skills in English, and experience teaching in English are also welcome to apply.
The duties include teaching courses in English lexicology/word knowledge, English literature, and academic writing, as well as ESP courses (English for Specific Purposes). It also includes supervising student teachers (VFU).
Qualifications
The assessment is based on good subject knowledge relevant to the content of the position and the duties involved, demonstrated pedagogical skill including the ability to develop pedagogical activities at different levels and with varying teaching methods, and personal qualities that are significant for performing the duties well.
Requirements for the position are:
- a completed Master's degree and other competence relevant to the subject of the position and the duties involved,
- documented pedagogical skill, and
- completion of a university pedagogy course of at least five weeks, or equivalent knowledge acquired in another way.
For this fixed-term appointment, an exemption from the requirement for university pedagogy education may be considered if justified by other merits.
Merits for the position are:
Merits include a degree in a subject relevant to the duties, as well as previous teaching experience on courses and modules with the same or similar content, particularly English literature, English vocabulary, and academic writing, also for doctoral students. A PhD in English with a literary focus or a related field is particularly meritorious. Documented good teamwork skills are also considered a merit.
Other information
The position is a fixed-term appointment (vicarship) for 6 months at 80% with a start date of August 1, 2026, or as agreed.
The vacation accrued during the employment must be taken within the employment period.

About the Centre for Languages and Literature (SOL)
The Centre for Languages and Literature (SOL) is Sweden's largest institution focusing on languages, linguistics, literary studies, and area studies. SOL offers approximately 500 standalone courses, complemented by a growing number of degree programs at undergraduate and advanced levels. With its 36 subjects and around 30 doctoral programs, SOL forms a solid unit with breadth and depth in education and research, distinguished by both national and international visibility. SOL is led by a board where the Dean is the chairperson. Additionally, there are three Associate Deans with specific operational responsibilities. SOL has approximately 300 employees and 8,000 students, of which about one hundred are doctoral students.
