Acting Unit Manager for the Economic Analysis Unit

Swedish Board for Foreign Trade (Kommerskollegium) is Sweden's authority for foreign trade, the EU's internal market, and trade policy. We work, among other things, with the EU's free trade agreements, Swedish companies' opportunities to import and export, and trade-related development cooperation. At the Swedish Board for Foreign Trade, you will find yourself in an international environment where major trade policy issues are mixed with concrete problem-solving for individual companies and individuals. Our vision is sustainable trade without barriers. Around 110 employees work here, and our activity-based office is located centrally in Stockholm.

The Swedish Board for Foreign Trade is a growing authority with several new tasks. Since the summer of 2025, we are also a preparedness authority with sectoral responsibility for the foreign trade sector within the Swedish civil defense.

About the Position

Do you want to lead a team that analyzes how international trade affects the competitiveness and economic development of Sweden and the EU? Then you should apply for the role of Acting Unit Manager.

The Economic Analysis Unit works with quantitative and qualitative analyses of trade opportunities and challenges in a world characterized by geopolitical uncertainty, technological transition, and changing global value chains. The unit works with both self-initiated analyses and analysis ideas from other parts of the Swedish Board for Foreign Trade. In addition, the unit continuously works on questions from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (UD), and several employees have specific expertise in the authority's development cooperation. The role also includes coordinating sustainability issues within the authority.

The unit works with various data sources and produces both short and long analyses. Sometimes employees work independently, at other times they work closely together with colleagues in the authority. This can, for example, involve investigating and pedagogically demonstrating how major world events affect international trade flows. The unit's employees also conduct quantitative analyses within microeconometrics and general equilibrium modeling. Since questions about international trade are often requested in the public sphere, you will also have contact with the media.

The regular Unit Manager is posted as a long-term advisor in Moldova. We are looking for a substitute for the period 1 October 2026 to 31 December 2027. However, the period may be both shorter or longer.

Your Responsibilities

As Acting Unit Manager, you have personnel, budget, and operational responsibility, with a focus on developing both the unit's work and employees through close and trust-based leadership. As Unit Manager, you are expected to drive the development of both working methods and policy issues, in close collaboration with experts both within and outside the unit.

You report to the Director General and are part of the authority's management group, representing the authority externally in various contexts. You have both an operational and strategic role and are expected, like your colleagues in the management group, to take responsibility for and actively contribute to the development of the entire authority.

Since the work involves participation in international meetings and work within our international development cooperation, business travel is required both within and outside Europe, sometimes with short notice.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for you who have a relevant academic degree, preferably in economics. Alternatively, you have other education combined with experience that we assess as equivalent.

You have experience in investigative work at an authority or institution relevant to the position and good knowledge of international trade and economics. We would like you to have worked with trade policy issues and have a good understanding of the Swedish Board for Foreign Trade's role and responsibilities.

Experience and good knowledge of the EU's legislative processes in areas relevant to the Swedish Board for Foreign Trade's activities are meritorious. If you have previous experience in leading, coordinating, and motivating experts, this is also an advantage. You know what the role of a civil servant entails and stand for the public sector values.

Your ability to express yourself in Swedish and English, both orally and in writing, is very good. You can communicate complex messages in a pedagogical way and make the unit's analyses and the Swedish Board for Foreign Trade's activities appealing to a wider audience. You are comfortable speaking in front of larger groups, participating in media, and representing the authority externally.

The position is classified for security and requires Swedish citizenship. A security investigation with register control will be conducted before a decision on employment is made.
