About the RoleYou will step into a research-driven project investigating how wastewater and sanitation solutions can function when societal functions are stressed by crisis or war. This role is suited for you who have deep experience with WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) in international contexts and wish to translate lessons learned from humanitarian aid and conflict-affected environments into knowledge relevant for Sweden.
You will work in a cross-sectoral environment where technology, organization, and governance need to meet. Together with other experts within areas such as water and wastewater systems, systems analysis, and methodology, you will contribute to producing analysis, policy foundations, and testable action alternatives. This is a rare opportunity to influence Swedish preparedness within a complex and societally critical area.
Responsibilities
- You contribute lessons learned from international crisis events regarding wastewater and sanitation, with a focus on environments characterized by crisis, conflict, or war.
- You translate international experiences within WASH and emergency sanitation into the Swedish context, making them usable in analysis and development work.
- You produce analyses, recommendations, and decision-support materials related to governance, policy, and implementation within sanitation and adjacent societal-critical infrastructure.
- You collaborate iteratively with project partners and other participants to develop action alternatives that can be tested in practice.
- You contribute to policy lab processes, workshops, and knowledge exchanges where international experiences need to be linked to Swedish needs and conditions.
- You strengthen the link between analytical insights and feasible solutions within preparedness, resilience, and societal-critical infrastructure.
Requirements
- You have documented experience working in international WASH projects, particularly in humanitarian aid or in conflict-affected or crisis-hit environments, with relevance to preparedness, resilience, or societal-critical infrastructure.
- You have international experience from a context relevant to Sweden, including experiences from Ukraine.
- You have documented experience in planning, coordinating, or implementing sanitation interventions during large-scale emergencies, humanitarian crises, or other situations with severely disrupted societal functions.
- You have experience working with emergency wastewater preparedness in a Swedish context, including collaboration with Swedish authorities, county administrative boards, municipalities, and/or water and wastewater organizations.
- You have documented experience in planning, conducting, and adapting training, capacity-building initiatives, or training sessions within emergency sanitation, WASH, crisis preparedness, or a related field.
- You have documented experience in policy development related to sanitation issues in an international context.
- You have documented experience in cross-sectoral work where technical, organizational, and governance-related perspectives are integrated into analysis or implementation.
- You have documented experience in producing analyses, decision-support materials, or recommendations for policy, governance, or implementation within sanitation, WASH, or adjacent societal-critical infrastructure.
- You are fluent in Swedish and English, both orally and in writing.
