Statens institutionsstyrelse, SiS, is a government agency responsible for individualized compulsory care for young people with complex psychosocial issues and for adults with substance abuse problems. SiS also implements closed youth care. We do this in youth homes and homes for adults with substance abuse issues across the country. Working with us at SiS turns your professional life into an exciting challenge. Regardless of where you work in our organization or what role you hold, you help create life-changing change.

SiS Youth Home Tysslinge, located outside Södertälje, receives non-compulsory school-age boys with psychosocial issues, as well as those involved in crime and substance abuse.

Job Description

SiS Youth Home Tysslinge is a facility in the highest security class, receiving young people at high risk of threats, violence, and absconding. The institution has a total of seven wards receiving young people placed under the Care of Young Persons Act (LVU) and young people sentenced under the Act on Closed Youth Care (LSU). One of the wards consists of places for young people who are treated in isolation for a period (VIE). The majority of our young people are often in legal proceedings or already convicted of serious crimes and have connections to criminal networks.

In the role of Treatment Pedagogue/Treatment Assistant, you work in a team, and together you are responsible for ensuring that the young people with us receive the structure, security, care, and treatment they need. We encounter young people in crisis, which means we must support the individual in their daily life through individually adapted and qualified care and motivational work with clear structures. With the support of your and your colleagues' knowledge within care and treatment work, you actively contribute to the fulfillment of treatment plans. Documentation is an important part of your work for planning and follow-up of the treatment. During daytime hours, you also function as a student assistant and participate in the young people's schooling and leisure activities.

Since SiS Youth Home Tysslinge has the highest security classification within SiS, this means you need to work with high risk awareness. You contribute to maintaining security in accordance with our written instructions and routines.

This is a job for you who can stand your ground and who wants to create security and safety in the often very difficult life situations of young people. The job is often demanding but also stimulating, joyful, and varied. It involves conflict management and, in some cases, physical interventions, for which you as an employee will receive mandatory training. As a civil servant, it is important that you act professionally and in accordance with objectivity and legal certainty. You share our vision of being a place for change, which permeates our approach, engagement, and attitude.

As a new employee, you will undergo SiS basic training. The training alternates between theory and guided introduction, equipping you for the treatment role in SiS operations.

The employment begins with a mandatory introduction week, which is a prerequisite for starting work on the ward. The first introduction week will be on-site at Tysslinge in week 35. Additional sessions will be offered later in the autumn.

Working Hours

Working hours are scheduled according to an irregular roster covering days, evenings, and weekends at 100%. The majority of our shifts are long, usually between 10 to 13 hours, but with more days off as compensation.

Qualifications

We strive for a staff group with different competencies within treatment work. You should be a secure, adult role model for the young people and work based on the agency's guidelines. To succeed in your work, you have a humanistic view of humanity. You are motivated to support people in vulnerable life situations and you share SiS's value base, being a place for change. Furthermore, you have a very good ability to create good relationships, engagement, and participation among our young people. As a person, you are secure in yourself and contribute to a good work environment with other staff. You have good communication skills, can maintain your calm even in pressured situations, and consistently follow laws, regulations, and routines. You also find it easy to collaborate with different professions as well as internal and external partners and are happy to share your knowledge with colleagues.

As a Treatment Pedagogue, you should have:

  • Completed upper secondary education
  • A degree from a 2-year post-secondary education at a folk high school or university college (KY/YH) with a focus on social/pedagogical treatment work, or a degree from a university that we assess as equivalent
  • Experience in youth-oriented work
  • Good Swedish language skills in speech and writing

According to the new Social Services Ordinance (Chapter 5, Section 4 of the Social Services Ordinance (2025:468)), we only hire persons who do not meet the requirements of at least two years of post-secondary education in special cases. In such cases, these persons are employed in the position of Treatment Assistant.

Merits:

  • Category B driver's license
  • If you have experience working with young people in vulnerable situations
  • If you have training in MI (Motivational Interviewing)

We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
