Description
At the Language Centre, approximately 200 mother tongue teachers work together to teach more than 70 languages. We provide mother tongue support, mother tongue instruction, education in modern language mother tongues, and study guidance for approximately 12,000 children and students from preschool to upper secondary school throughout Gothenburg and its surrounding municipalities.
Job Description
The Language Centre is currently seeking a mother tongue teacher in Sinhala for a 10% position during the autumn term, with the possibility of extension until June 2027.
As a mother tongue teacher, you develop students' language skills by using varied working methods and teaching approaches. You actively and thoughtfully integrate digital tools to support student learning.
Organizationally, you belong to the Language Centre, but the majority of your time is spent at the primary schools where you have your assignments. The role requires close collaboration with principals and staff at these schools.
Your direct supervisor is one of the unit managers at the Language Centre.
The culture at the Language Centre is characterized by commitment, collaboration, and a development-oriented mindset. One morning a week, you meet with your colleagues at the Language Centre in working groups or language groups, where you work based on identified development needs. You receive support, inspiration, and new ideas from both your managers and colleagues.
Qualifications
Formal Competencies:
We are looking for you who are qualified and certified as a mother tongue teacher in Sinhala, or alternatively, a certified teacher with at least 30 higher education credits in Sinhala. Sinhala must be your mother tongue, and you must have good proficiency in Swedish, both spoken and written.
Since digital tools are to be used actively and consciously in teaching, good digital competence is required.
Experience from pedagogical work in Swedish schools is desirable. You should be well-versed in and understand the importance of working according to the Swedish school's curriculum documents.
Personal Competencies:
Since mother tongue teachers meet student groups daily with varying knowledge levels and ages, you need to be flexible in your pedagogical approach. Your attitude towards children and young people is characterized by attentiveness and encouragement. You motivate the young people you meet and give them strength and self-confidence.
In interactions with school staff, you are collaborative and solution-oriented, while being clear about what your role as a mother tongue teacher entails. As a colleague, it is natural for you to share ideas and experiences and contribute to the development of the Language Centre as a whole.
We warmly welcome your application!
