Your Role

In your role as a student assistant at Björknäs Adapted Primary and Upper Secondary School, you work based on each student's needs, interests, development, and prerequisites. You meet students with many different types of functional variations and follow the students throughout the school day as well as during KTT (Coordination and Follow-up Meetings), before and after school hours. Most students study subject areas, and you need to be able to communicate with the children using various AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) methods. Together with the work team, which includes a teacher and several student assistants, you are responsible for implementing and developing the students' training and education.

You follow the students through the entire school day, including after-school care time, and provide support in both learning and care to ensure the day runs smoothly. At after-school care, you are motivating and contribute to ensuring students have both meaningful and fun activities. The work is physically demanding and includes care duties. The students have extensive care needs and require support in various situations throughout the day. As staff in adapted schools, you may also work on different departments over time, depending on the needs of the operations.

Your Experience

For this position, you are required to have:

• a secondary education qualification
• experience working with children and/or young people with intellectual disabilities and/or multiple disabilities
• experience working with children and/or young people with autism
• good knowledge and experience of neurodevelopmental disorders (NPF)
• good ability to express yourself well in Swedish, both orally and in writing.

The following are considered meritorious:

• experience working in an adapted primary and/or upper secondary school
• secondary or post-secondary education in healthcare and social care
• education or completed courses in intellectual disabilities
• knowledge of sign communication and/or other alternative communication methods such as picture support communication.

To succeed in this role, you have a strong interest in people and the ability to build good relationships with students, colleagues, and guardians. You are flexible, solution-oriented, and attuned to the students' individual prerequisites. Furthermore, you are self-reliant but understand the importance of collegial cooperation and enjoy working in a team. You must be calm and pedagogical with great patience and the ability to create a sense of security for each student. You have a positive attitude towards your work and the ability to help motivate students in various contexts. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
