The Department of History and Contemporary Studies at Södertörn University is advertising a permanent position as a Senior Lecturer in Archival Science.

The subject of Archival Science at Södertörn University has offered independent undergraduate courses in archival science since the autumn term of 2013. Since the autumn term of 2016, the university has also offered two bachelor's programmes with an archival science focus. Archival science combines traditions from the humanities and cultural heritage with social sciences, law, and information technology, aiming among other things to train for professional roles such as archivist or records manager.

Job Responsibilities

The main responsibility is teaching within the main field of archival science. Teaching also includes supervision, course coordination, and course administration. Applicants are expected to contribute to course development, take administrative responsibility, and actively participate in the work of the teaching staff. The appointed Senior Lecturer is also expected to plan, initiate, and develop independent research within archival science or related fields, and actively apply for external research funding. Additionally, administrative tasks may occur. The teaching is conducted in Swedish. The position includes collaboration as part of course administration and coordination.

Qualifications

To be eligible for appointment as a Senior Lecturer in Archival Science, the candidate must have demonstrated pedagogical skill and hold a doctoral degree in archival science or in a subject relevant to archival science, or possess equivalent scientific competence. Good familiarity with archives is a prerequisite for the employment. The following criteria for scientific and pedagogical skill are applied when assessing eligibility at Södertörn University.

Scientific Skill is demonstrated through scientific publications within the current subject area, participation in research projects, research collaborations, collaborative assignments, contributions to the development of the subject area, and through assignments as an expert, editor, or equivalent.

Pedagogical Skill is demonstrated through high-quality and substantial teaching, participation in pedagogical development work, a self-reflective approach to student learning and experiences as well as one's own role as a teacher, collaboration initiatives, research connection in higher education, and course development. The applicant must have completed university-level pedagogical training of at least 7.5 higher education credits or possess equivalent competence.

The applicant must otherwise have the personal qualities needed to perform the employment well and to represent the university in a way that benefits the operations, such as taking responsibility, flexibility, independence, and good teamwork skills. For this position, the applicant must be proficient in teaching in Swedish.

Evaluation Criteria

As evaluation criteria for the appointment of a Senior Lecturer, the degree of such skill that is a requirement for eligibility for employment shall apply. For this position, scientific and pedagogical skill shall be weighted equally. Furthermore, the following evaluation criteria have been established for this position (in order of priority).

• Pedagogical skill in archival science or archival and information science, humanistic and/or social science subjects that require good knowledge of archives, and scientific skill within a subject area relevant to archival science, including the ability to initiate and conduct research as well as to seek and obtain external funding.
• Administrative skill and collaborative skill that are significant for the employment. Administrative skill refers to the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work effectively, meet deadlines, and manage resources in line with the organization's goals and priorities. Collaborative skill refers to the ability to initiate, plan, and implement collaboration with the surrounding society.
• Professional experience as an archivist.

The employment is permanent and full-time. Start date by agreement. A probationary period of six months may be applied.
