Qualifications
According to the Higher Education Ordinance, eligibility for appointment as Assistant Professor requires a doctoral degree or equivalent scientific competence. Preference is given to those who have obtained a doctoral degree or equivalent competence no more than five years before the application deadline.
Additionally, according to Uppsala University's employment regulations, the applicant must possess pedagogical competence demonstrated through merits in education and teaching. To achieve pedagogical competence, the applicant should have completed higher education pedagogy training relevant to the activity, lasting at least five weeks, or be assessed as having equivalent knowledge. Furthermore, as a general requirement for teachers, the applicant must have the personal qualities required to perform the duties of the position well.
The ability to teach in both Swedish and English is also a requirement.
Evaluation Criteria
When selecting among eligible applicants, equal care will be given to the assessment of scientific and pedagogical competence. Special emphasis will be placed on scientific competence. Administrative competence and the ability to collaborate will also be assessed.
Scientific competence refers to research merits. Special weight is given to research merits within at least one field of religious history. In the assessment, scientific quality will be considered primarily, but also the scope of the research in terms of depth and breadth. Documented linguistic and other methodological and theoretical skills relevant to the field are considered significant. The ability to plan, initiate, lead, and develop research, as well as to obtain research funding competitively, is considered important. Scientific competence is demonstrated by the publication of articles and/or monographs that have contributed to the development of the subject nationally and especially internationally.
Pedagogical competence: Equal care will be given to the assessment of pedagogical competence as to the assessment of scientific competence. When evaluating pedagogical competence, pedagogical quality will be considered primarily. The scope of teaching, both breadth and depth, is also considered significant. In assessing pedagogical competence, consideration will be given to experience in planning, conducting, and evaluating teaching, as well as experience in supervision and examination.
Special emphasis will be placed on the applicant's prospects of contributing to the existing competence of the department and the subject, and to the future development of both research and education.
Other competencies: Administrative competence is significant for the position and will be considered. The ability to collaborate with the surrounding society and to inform about research and development work will also be considered.
Administrative competence is demonstrated by the ability to conduct overall operational planning, skill in leading operations and personnel, and the ability to collaborate. The ability to inform about research and development work is demonstrated through popular science activities, such as participation in public education, publishing popular science writings, and participating in public debate on educational and research issues.
Personal circumstances (e.g., parental leave) that can be counted in the applicant's favor during the merit assessment should be stated in connection with the presentation of merits and experience.
In this recruitment, the University will primarily consider the person who, after a holistic assessment of competence and skills, is judged to have the best prerequisites for carrying out and developing current tasks and contributing to a positive development of the operations.
