In 2026/2027, as a lawyer, you can try out the judicial profession within the Swedish Courts – a unique opportunity for new experiences and a valuable asset for your future career!
As an Additional Judge (adjungerat råd), you will have the opportunity to work as a judge, participate in case preparations and hearings, and write judgments and decisions. This is supported by training, practical work, and guidance from experienced colleagues. A comprehensive judicial background in both the appellate court and the district court will also allow you to gain experience in the district court, where the core of the work involves independent decision-making. The position is a fixed-term appointment of one year, starting with at least six months in the appellate court followed by service in the district court.
Qualifications
- We are looking for you who are a skilled lawyer, possess good communication and collaboration skills, and are trustworthy. You have excellent verbal and written expression skills and exercise sound judgment.
- You have several years of experience in legal fields such as prosecutor, advocate, professor, or docent in a legal science subject, or another legally qualified person with extensive experience in qualified legal work.
- You are analytical and results-oriented, accustomed to independent decision-making, and capable of making decisions within a reasonable time and with high quality.
- You are interested in applying for a permanent judge position in the future.
- Completed clerkship (notariatjänstgöring) with good references can be meritorious.
- Among the basic requirements for judges is that an Additional Judge must be a Swedish citizen.

About the Workplace
The Administrative Court of Appeal in Sundsvall is one of the four Administrative Courts of Appeal in the country. The court's main task is to review cases appealed from the Administrative Courts in Falun, Härnösand, Umeå, and Luleå. The most common case types are tax cases, social insurance cases, cases under the Social Services Act, confidentiality cases, procurement cases, and various cases concerning compulsion against persons. In addition to handling cases, the Administrative Court of Appeal is tasked with training law clerks and assessors in the four-year judge education program.
The Administrative Court of Appeal has approximately 50 employees. The court is divided into a judicial division, a case preparation unit, a case registry, and an administrative unit. The administrative unit is shared with the Court of Appeal for Lower Norrland.
