RESPONSIBILITIES

The Department of Education is looking for you, a language teacher, who wants to be part of our team at the Language and Competence Centre. You will work with the reception of newly arrived students, mapping, and competence support in teaching in the multilingual classroom, focusing on primary and upper secondary school.

Within the assignment, you receive newly arrived students and follow up on their start in school. This may involve supporting the student, teacher, work team, or other professionals regarding teaching and study techniques for students whose mother tongue is not Swedish, as well as teaching students in Swedish as a Second Language (SVA). You handle various issues ranging from classroom environment to digital aids, lesson design, study techniques, and accessibility for students with a mother tongue other than Swedish, from an intercultural perspective.

Currently, the LCC (Language and Competence Centre) also has a close collaboration with Linnaeus University in two different practice-oriented research projects, ULF: Development, Learning, Research.

The assignment is distributed in the team on a weekly basis, and the work takes place at schools throughout Växjö Municipality, which requires daily travel. The team is based at the Language and Competence Centre, located at Storgatan 52B.

The Language and Competence Centre is a unit with approximately 65 employees responsible for the reception of newly arrived students, mother tongue instruction, and study guidance in Växjö Municipality. The unit also has a competence development assignment regarding multilingualism directed at the entire Department of Education, from preschool to upper secondary school. There is close cooperation between the different professions at the LCC where we together create conditions for increased motivation and goal achievement among students with a mother tongue other than Swedish.

QUALIFICATIONS

You have a teaching license in Swedish as a Second Language and experience teaching newly arrived students. You are accustomed to working with assisting digital tools. You have experience meeting students from different parts of the world and use a language- and knowledge-developing approach in teaching, as well as holding an intercultural perspective. It is meritorious if you have special educational needs competence from education and practice.

You are good at collaborating and are used to working in a team, but you can also plan your work independently. Since the tasks vary both content-wise and geographically, you need to be flexible and mobile, enjoy meeting new places and people, and be good at building relationships. Personal suitability is considered as the work is in a team.

The position requires a B driving license, and appointment will take place if necessary decisions are made.

The position is a vacation cover position at 75%.

Employment type: Permanent employment.
Duration: Permanent, start date: 2026-08-10 or as agreed.

Employees of Växjö Municipality should reflect the diversity found in the municipality. We welcome applicants regardless of age, gender, and ethnicity.

As a permanent employee, you will usually be assigned to wartime duties in our organization.

There may be ongoing interviews, so please send your application as soon as possible.

Applications are accepted exclusively via Offentliga Jobbs recruitment tool (www.offentligajobb.se (https://www.offentligajobb.se)).

Bring educational certificates and any professional licenses to the interview. To be considered for employment, you need to show two extracts from the criminal record register before you are hired. Orders for extracts from the criminal record register can be made at https://polisen.se/tjanster-tillstand/belastningsregistret/ (https://polisen.se/tjanster-tillstand/belastningsregistret/) and you should use both the one called Work in school or preschool (442.5) and Control of own information in the criminal record register (442.3).

For internal candidates, a different start date may be relevant. For more information, see Decision regarding the time of unit change when recruiting an internal candidate within the Department of Education on the intranet.
