The Department of Communication, Quality Technology and Information Systems operates at both Campus Östersund and Campus Sundsvall. The department offers education and conducts research in the fields of Communication, Quality Technology, and Information Systems.

Responsibilities

The fixed-term position includes teaching, supervision, and examination in practical and theoretical courses in media and communication science within the Journalism Programme as well as the Communication and PR Programme. Teaching responsibilities also include course coordination, course development, and administration related to these tasks. Teaching is conducted both on campus and online. The position also involves participation in ongoing research projects on local journalism and disinformation.

The candidate is expected to participate actively in the faculty and research community.

Qualifications

Applicants for the position of University Lecturer must meet the requirements specified in Mittuniversitetet's employment regulations.

To qualify as a University Lecturer, a minimum of 180 higher education credits is required, including at least 90 credits or equivalent competence in journalism or media and communication science. A Bachelor's degree in journalism or media and communication science, or a related field, along with formal training in higher education pedagogy, is meritorious. Meritorious also includes doctoral studies in media and communication science or experience in research projects within the subject.

Assessment Criteria

The assessment criteria for the appointment of a University Lecturer are based on the level of skill required for the position. The assessment of pedagogical competence will be given equal importance as the assessment of other qualifying factors.

The following assessment criteria apply to this position:

  • Relevant subject knowledge for the content of the position and the tasks involved.
  • Experience in teaching journalism and media and communication science within scientific theory and methodology, particularly quantitative methods.
  • Ability to conduct and develop teaching and pedagogical activities based on research in higher education pedagogy.
  • Training in higher education pedagogy.
  • Experience in lecturing, planning, and facilitating workshops and seminars.
  • Theoretical knowledge related to courses in areas such as the conditions of journalism production, media systems, and disinformation.
  • Experience in research and research projects in areas relevant to the position, particularly experience of international cooperation in journalism or journalism research, as internationalization is a prioritized area in the current programs.
  • Training in and experience with academic writing.
  • Experience in supervision at the Master's level.
  • Completed or ongoing doctoral studies in Media and Communication Science.

Personal Qualities

Particular attention will be paid to teamwork skills and how the candidate, through their experience and competence, is assessed to complement and strengthen the department and its future development, as well as the ability to initiate activities that strengthen the educational and research environment. The candidate should also possess the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work effectively. The person should be independent, take responsibility for their tasks, and structure their own work. The candidate must also be flexible and able to adapt to varied tasks.

Other Assessment Criteria

  • Very good oral and written proficiency in Swedish and English. The main working language is Swedish, but teaching in English may be included.
  • Experience working with digital teaching tools such as learning platforms and online meeting tools.

Processing

The processing of the appointment follows the forms specified in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and proceeds in accordance with Mittuniversitetet's employment regulations.

Employment and Start Date

The employment is a fixed-term position at 100%, starting from 2026-09-01 or as agreed, but no later than 2027-02-28.
