Job Responsibilities

As a camp leader at Akka's campsite, you are responsible for children aged 9–13 years and plan and lead the activities for this group. Our profile is clearly focused on outdoor life and outdoor pedagogy. The participants sleep in tents during their entire stay, and most of the activities take place outdoors.

Camp means round-the-clock operations for both participants and leaders. The children sleep in tents on the grounds, while the staff live in houses near the farm. Once per period, you have an overnight duty, which means you sleep in a tent to be close to the children at night. Therefore, you need to feel comfortable being away from home for at least six weeks.

In this role, you are responsible for creating a safe and structured daily routine, leading activities, and being a present adult who guides the children in their development and decisions.

Who are we looking for?

A large part of the assignment involves meeting the children's needs and being a stable support in their daily lives. To succeed in the role, you need to be confident in yourself and your leadership, able to set clear boundaries while building good relationships. You should feel comfortable discussing life issues and act as a role model.

The work has many similarities with the school world, where structure and boundary-setting are combined with relationship-building to create a safe climate.

Experience

You who apply should have a great interest in outdoor life or experience in outdoor pedagogy, as most of the activities take place outdoors. During the summer, we conduct hikes, raft building, climbing, paddling, swimming, and cooking over an open fire. We also offer creative activities such as theater, dance, and singing. Disco, football tournaments, and themed days are also part of the program.

Experience working with children in the middle school age group is advantageous, as is experience from primary school or leisure center activities.

Employment Conditions

The position is a full-time job. You must be able to attend our training days on-site at the campsite in Värmland on April 30 - May 3, and June 6-11. During the summer, you need to be able to work, and thus be away from home for at least six weeks during the period June 12 - August 16.
