Curious about forensic psychiatry?

Are you a nurse who has recently graduated or never worked in psychiatry? Or have you had a longer break from the nursing profession and are curious about forensic psychiatry? Then there is an opportunity to apply for one of two positions with an extended introduction to Ward 93. This is a collaboration between Ward 93 and Ward 94, which are sister wards. During training, you will do an initial shadowing shift on Ward 94 with an experienced psychiatric nurse who acts as a mentor and supervisor. Nurses in forensic psychiatry cover for each other's wards during illness and vacation, so your supervisor has good knowledge and familiarity with both wards.

After the initial shadowing shift, you will then work scheduled shifts with your supervising nurse on Ward 94, and you will do day tours on Ward 93 to get into the nurse's work with patient responsibility and ward rounds on your home ward. When you are then ready to take on the role of a nurse, you will work on Ward 93 but will have your supervising nurse on the neighboring ward on the same scheduled shift as you. With this introduction, we want to give you the best possible and secure start as a nurse in forensic psychiatry.

About the operations

The forensic psychiatry unit at Brinkåsen in Vänersborg consists of five care wards with different focuses based on psychiatric diagnosis. Ward 93 primarily cares for and treats patients with personality disorders combined with long-term substance abuse issues. What all care wards have in common is that our patients are sentenced to closed forensic psychiatric care. Our mission is to meet the patient's psychiatric care needs while also taking into account public safety.

The goal is for the patient to feel better – through treatment and support – and in the long term be able to live a functioning life in society without relapsing into crime.

Individualizing care interventions improves the conditions for the patient to gain control over their illness and thereby reduce the risk of relapse into criminal activity. In addition to nursing staff, several different competencies and professions are linked to the operations as support in the care process.

Job responsibilities

We work in care teams based on case management based on evidence-based guidelines and care programs. As a nurse, you have overall nursing responsibility within the care team as well as responsibility for medical interventions.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who are a registered nurse with an interest in psychiatry. We work in teams and have continuous contact with relatives and care partners. Great importance is placed on personal suitability and ability to collaborate.

Clinical Base Year

As a newly graduated nurse, you are included in the clinical base year with regular mentor meetings on the ward.
