The Swedish National Board of Institutional Care (SiS) is a government agency responsible for providing individually adapted compulsory care for young people with complex psychosocial problems and for adults with substance abuse issues. SiS also operates closed youth care facilities, including youth homes and homes for adults with substance abuse problems, located throughout the country. Working with us offers a challenging and rewarding career where you contribute to life-changing outcomes, regardless of your specific role or location.

SiS Youth Home Råby admits both girls and boys. We offer both closed and open placements for closed youth care, as well as treatment spots for young people placed under the Young Persons Act (LVU).

Job Description

Are you passionate about young people and eager to work in a school environment characterized by good atmosphere, high quality, and joy in work? Here is an opportunity for you to influence students' futures and education in a creative and enabling school setting. We are currently looking for a Study and Career Counselor (SYV) for SiS Youth Home Råby in Lund.

The students placed at our units are generally not subject to compulsory schooling. They study within the framework of the introduction program (individual alternative), although there may also be students subject to compulsory schooling or those in adapted schooling. Many students have experienced difficulties in school and have significant needs to compensate for interrupted education. All students have an individual study plan where goals are set together with a mentor and the study and career counselor. Teaching is conducted full-time in small groups.

As a Study and Career Counselor, your main task is to guide students towards further studies, internships, or alternative pathways into working life. The role also involves certain administrative duties related to the students' continuous schooling, as well as supervising and leading teaching groups in matters concerning education, working life, and society within the general scope of study and career guidance.

The position requires collaboration both within SiS and with other professionals around the students, such as social services and educational authorities, where the students' right to education is central. As a counselor, you help ensure continuity in the students' schooling during placement, while they are at SiS, and upon their transition out of SiS. At the youth home, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team working together for the young people. Collaboration with nurses, pedagogical therapists, psychologists, and others is therefore a key part of your responsibilities. To thrive in this role, it is important that you are flexible and possess strong communication skills.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Education and experience as a study and career counselor from the later years of compulsory school or upper secondary school.
  • Experience working with students in need of support.
  • Good knowledge of upper secondary school regulations and relevant laws and ordinances, including GY25 and other relevant steering documents.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with information retrieval.
  • Desire to develop counseling work at the youth home in collaboration with others.

Meritorious Qualifications

  • Experience from introduction programs and/or special education groups.
  • Experience working with young people in institutional care.
  • Good knowledge of different educational pathways within adult education.

You should be motivated by the opportunity to motivate and build trusting pedagogical relationships with students with psychosocial problems and/or criminal backgrounds. It is important that you can identify and meet students with high, realistic expectations, and support them in finding their goals and the possible paths that lead there. You are flexible, receptive, and able to see new opportunities despite obstacles. You believe that all students can find a path to education and work.

You are secure, unpretentious, stable, and able to set and maintain boundaries respectfully, remaining calm even in stressful situations. You have good collaboration skills, high social competence, and a positive view of students. You understand the importance of adapting to changed circumstances and see the benefits of change. You are proactive, participate in development work to achieve school goals, and always take responsibility for your tasks by planning, organizing, and prioritizing work effectively. The role requires good verbal and written expression skills and the ability to adapt communication to the recipient.

This is a vacation replacement position with statutory vacation, equivalent to 40 hours per work week for a 100% position.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

At SiS, we value good employee relations. This means that you, as an employee, take responsibility for your work, contribute to development, and participate in good collaboration.
