Workplace Description

The position is located at the Microbial Evolutionary Genetics (MEG) laboratory, led by Johannes Cairns at the Department of Experimental Medical Science, Faculty of Medicine, Lund University.

The research group studies microbial evolution, antibiotic resistance, and microbial interactions using experimental evolution, microbial ecology, and bioinformatics. The laboratory collaborates closely with national infrastructures such as SciLifeLab and has international partnerships.

The position will contribute to ongoing experimental work, including an in vitro model for urinary tract infections (UTI) as well as other eco-evolutionary microbiology projects.

The research environment is interdisciplinary and international, and the selected candidate will work closely with researchers and students in the group, including postdocs, PhD students, and technical staff.

Tasks and Responsibilities

You will:

  • Work with the setup and optimization of an in vitro model for urinary tract infections
  • Establish and maintain microbial culture systems
  • Work with defined microbial communities, including synthetic two-species co-cultures
  • Perform bacterial cultures, sampling, and phenotypic analyses
  • Assist in experiments related to antibiotic response and experimental evolution
  • Perform basic analysis of experimental data
