Special Educator for Habilitation Centre in Jönköping

The Role of the Special Educator

We are looking for a special educator for our unit for children and young people with intellectual disabilities, autism, ADHD, and/or motor impairments. As a special educator at the habilitation centre, you contribute your special pedagogical competence to our teamwork. Within the clinic, we work in a cross-professional team around the patient. The team consists, in addition to the special educator, of a psychologist, counselor, occupational therapist, speech therapist, dietitian, nurse, doctor, physiotherapist, and care administrator.

The tasks include mapping and stimulating children's development using pedagogical methods. As a special educator, you work with play, interaction, and communication to strengthen the child's opportunities for participation and development. In addition, you provide support to prevent and reduce challenging behaviors and explain the impact of the disability on daily life for those around the child.

Your work may also involve leading groups and lectures. The work is carried out in close collaboration with guardians and, if necessary, consultatively with other networks such as preschools, schools, care neighbors, and other operations. Our patients often have complex needs where collaboration is required, not only within the team but also with care neighbors, municipal operations, and other authorities. The tasks are varied and require flexibility as you do not only meet patients at the habilitation centre but also, if necessary, in their immediate environment.

Your Future Workplace

The Habilitation Centre works with people with some form of disability, and we address people who have:

• Intellectual disability
• Permanent motor disability that is congenital or acquired during childhood, such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida, or muscular dystrophy
• Neuropsychiatric disability combined with intellectual disability
• Acquired brain injury with permanent cognitive impairment equivalent to intellectual disability
• Significant visual impairment, blindness, or deafblindness
• Deafness, hearing impairment, deafblindness, sound sensitivity, tinnitus, or other hearing-related disabilities

The perspective is always both medical, pedagogical, psychological, and social. This makes relatives an important partner in both interventions and working methods.

The habilitation works based on intervention descriptions, habilitation programs, and care processes, where you as a pedagog participate from the patient's first visit, provide interventions, participate in habilitation planning, and evaluate our interventions. We document in the journal system Cosmic.

The foundation of our work is the meeting with children, young people, and adults who come into contact with us based on their individual needs for habilitation. Your Profile

We are looking for you who are a special educator and have experience working with children with disabilities. As a special educator, you have experience in mapping children's development and providing interventions to stimulate the child's development regarding, for example, play, interaction, and communication in ages 0-18.

We prefer that you have experience working with challenging behaviors and preferably competence in TBA (Teaching Behavior Analysis), clarifying pedagogy, and AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication). We would like you to have experience working consultatively with preschools and schools and working with pedagogical interventions for the child and family in the home environment. Many interventions are given individually, so you should feel comfortable with an independent way of working. You need to be accustomed to structuring and planning your work yourself and handling the documentation and administration that the work requires. You also need to have good cooperation skills and be driven by collegial learning as we have close cooperation with different professional categories at the unit.

A valid driver's license (Category B) is required
