Description of the workplace

The Department of Built Environment offers a stimulating and international environment consisting of PhD students, postdocs, and faculty from many parts of the world. Research and teaching are conducted in an open and progressive climate with challenges and collaborations both within academia and with industry partners, nationally and internationally. The workplace is the Division of Water Resources Engineering at the Department of Built Environment at LTH. Here, research and teaching are conducted on how water occurs and is transported in nature and in the built environment. This includes studies of precipitation and stormwater, how water reaches watercourses, floods, and methods to eliminate or mitigate the negative impacts of floods on the environment, water flows in soil and watercourses, factors affecting water use, water quality, coastal hydraulics, and erosion processes. The division has approximately 30 employees and around 20 PhD students. The advertised position will be placed in the group for hydraulics and hydrology, which studies precipitation, runoff, and flows in watercourses.

Job Description

You will work within SWAT, a joint international project between Sweden, Kenya, Tanzania, and China, with the aim of collaborating and exchanging knowledge between the Global North and South, and developing sustainable solutions that can be applied in other regions with similar challenges. The focus is on supporting the project manager in project management, coordination of project activities, data/material collection, and writing reports and scientific publications. You will specifically participate in the development of a sustainable water index and use the index for evaluation based on project portfolios from the last five years from different countries.

The duties include, among other things:

  • regular follow-up of the project's progress
  • support and assistance in research activities
  • communication with stakeholders and building of project archives/databases
  • writing of scientific reports and publications
  • identification of future funding opportunities and grant applications

Qualifications

Employment as a researcher requires the applicant to have a doctoral degree.

Requirements:

  • PhD in hydrology, hydraulics, water resources engineering, or equivalent research competence within the subject area
  • very good oral and written proficiency in English
  • good knowledge of water resources engineering
  • good written, analytical, and mathematical skills
  • that you are self-motivated and structured, take personal responsibility for driving the work forward, and can collaborate
  • that you are proactive and creative

The position is a fixed-term full-time employment at 100% during the period 2026-07-01 – 2026-12-31.

Researchers are covered by a local collective agreement on annual working hours for researchers and assistant researchers. The planning of annual working hours takes place in dialogue between the manager and the employee.
