About the Department

The Department for Work and Learning is responsible for, among other things, individual and family care, the labor market and employment, as well as adult education and upper secondary school. Our fundamental mission is to provide education and support interventions based on the individual's needs and conditions. Through early, promoting, and preventive measures, we conduct targeted work in collaboration with other societal actors.

The Individual and Family Care Division consists of four units: IFO Team 1, IFO Team 2, the Housing Support Team, and the Support and Treatment Unit. The division is responsible for case processing and implementation within the areas of children (Social Services Act and Youth Law) and adult substance abuse (Social Services Act and Care of Abusers Act), social psychiatry (Social Services Act), financial assistance, and domestic violence (Social Services Act).

Job Responsibilities

We offer the opportunity to be part of the launch of the work as a School Social Worker in Alvesta Municipality's School Social Team. Alvesta Municipality is establishing local school social teams as part of the work to promote student attendance, goal achievement, and mental health. Successful attendance reduces the risk of exclusion, mental ill-health, and crime.

School social teams are built on an interdisciplinary approach where you, as a School Social Worker, will play a key role in coordinating efforts between the school and social services. By working closely with students, guardians, and other actors such as healthcare and leisure activities, the teams create a holistic view of the student's situation and offer early, coordinated support measures. The goal is to create a safe and supportive school environment, prevent absenteeism, and contribute to ensuring that every student is given the prerequisites to succeed in school. You will be involved in driving the development of the School Social Worker role and the work with school social teams in the municipality.

Together with counselors, other school staff, and the principal, you, as a School Social Worker, will collaborate and offer early interventions without exercising authority. You will act as a link between social services and the school and serve as a consultative support to schools and other activities surrounding the student and their family. You will work with parental support, both individually and in groups. You will complement the student health services by offering support regarding the entire life situation of children and young people, and this work is often done together with the family.

The majority of your working time will be spent in the municipality's primary schools, where the work is led by school management. You will become an important actor in student health work. You will, for example, offer support measures to guardians and facilitate communication and cooperation between guardians and other actors surrounding the individual student.

Examples of tasks for a School Social Worker include participating in parent meetings, attending school staff meetings, participating in student health teams at schools, having a consultative role regarding local attendance work, and providing counseling and support conversations with students, primarily in relation to the family as a whole. You will contribute to mapping the student's school social situation, the family system, and attendance work, to better understand and support the student's needs and development.

Qualifications and Merits

We are looking for you who have a social work degree with knowledge of current legislation. You have experience working within social services, and it is meritorious if you have experience working with school social issues, parental support, and treatment work. You have good insight into the mission of schools and social services and current legislation.

Meritorious is the application of the "Kronobarn" model and active work with the child's plan. School Social Workers will be involved in developing the area-based work in the municipality regarding our students.

As a School Social Worker, you have a good ability to collaborate; you can work both independently and in a team. You are structured and can communicate verbally and in writing. You are receptive and confident in your professional role, with the ability to make assessments and prioritizations from a holistic perspective. You see possibilities in the interdisciplinary work around the student and their guardians. You have experience collaborating between different activities and are accustomed to working both independently and in a team. You are used to working systematically to map children's needs and also have an easy time building good relationships with children and parents in psychosocial change work.

Good knowledge of Swedish, both verbal and written, is required. Personal suitability is given great weight. A manual Class B driver's license is a requirement.
