What we do at Blykalla
Blykalla is a Swedish deep-tech company at the forefront of the nuclear industry, pioneering the development of small modular reactors that provide clean, safe, and reliable energy. Thanks to lead-cooling, we achieve high safety in a very compact format, allowing for a simple and cost-effective design that can be mass-produced. Our unique reactor design will provide safe and green baseload energy that perfectly complements solar and wind power.
What you’ll get to do
We're seeking an experienced Nuclear Safety Engineer within deterministic safety analysis to join our Nuclear Engineering & Safety team in Stockholm. In this role, you will analyze the safety case for our lead-cooled fast reactor designs, using deterministic methods on transient and accident conditions. An important part of the job is to document your work with the aim of supporting regulatory interactions, thereby ensuring that our SMRs meet and demonstrate the highest level of nuclear safety throughout design, licensing, and deployment. More specifically, you will:
- Develop and maintain the deterministic safety analysis case for our cutting-edge lead-cooled fast reactor designs.
- Perform simulation and analysis of transient and accident conditions using computer codes such as Bella, Apros, and Spectra, as well as fuel performance and/or CFD tools, depending on skills and interest.
- Develop and maintain a transparent and efficient ecosystem of computer codes, plant models, verification & validation cases, and all associated documentation.
- Prepare safety analysis reports and technical submittals for regulatory review.
- Stay current with advances in safety methodologies, computer codes, regulatory requirements, and international standards.
Who you’ll get to work with
The Nuclear Safety & Licensing Engineer sits in the Nuclear Engineering & Safety team within Blykalla and reports to the manager of Nuclear Engineering & Safety. We are a diverse team that is passionate about our work and our company. Cross-functional interaction with the fuel performance team will be an important part of your job.
Who you are
You will be part of a highly skilled team with a can-do attitude. We value personnel chemistry and strive to create a workplace where you enjoy coming to. There are, however, a few things that we think will help in order for you to succeed in this role, these are:
- Master's degree in engineering, physics, or related field.
- 5–10 years of experience in deterministic safety analysis for any commercial reactor types.
- Strong understanding of reactor safety principles, defense-in-depth, transients, and accident phenomenology.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (SSM, NRC, IAEA, or equivalent) and licensing processes.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.
- Fluent in English, spoken and written.
- Fluency in Swedish, spoken and written.
If you are not sure that you are 100% qualified but are up to the challenge, we encourage you to apply.
