Workplace Description
The position is located at the Department of ABM and Digital Cultures, which is part of the Department of Cultural Sciences. At the department, students can study a bachelor's programme in Digital Cultures, and a master's programme in ABM (Archives, Libraries, and Museums) is also offered.
The project Swedish Memory of the Holocaust – Museums, Politics, and Materiality is a project within the field of museology. At Lund University, the research subject of museology is focused on investigating and understanding the role that museums, cultural heritage, and art institutions have historically and in the current ideological and political climate. The research includes collections and cultural environments, the establishment and management of memory institutions, the design of activities, as well as digital heritage, digital development, human rights, antisemitism, and xenophobia.

Job Responsibilities
Research within the framework of the project Swedish Memory of the Holocaust – Museums, Politics, and Materiality, which is funded by the Swedish Research Council. The project is led by researcher Britta Geschwind. In the researcher position, work with Holocaust-related collections and exhibitions at museums, as well as archive studies and various forms of text and image analysis, will be central. You are expected to work independently, but also in close collaboration with the project leader, for example by co-authoring an article. In addition to conducting research at the workplace in Lund, the position also involves travel to Stockholm, where investigations are carried out. Working hours are planned in consultation between you and the project leader.
Qualifications
A requirement is that the researcher is well-versed in the field of the Holocaust in museums and memory culture to quickly get up to speed with the work. It is a significant merit if the researcher has previously worked with Holocaust-related exhibitions at the Jewish Museum, Kulturen in Lund, and/or the Swedish History Museum regarding the Holocaust. Familiarity with analytical perspectives on nationalism, antisemitism, and the Holocaust is also highly meritorious.
Requirements for the position are:
- PhD in History or Museology
- In-depth familiarity with the field of the Holocaust in museums
- Experience in investigating museum work in relation to the Holocaust and related events
- Ability to communicate fluently in spoken and written academic English
- Experience in publishing scientific articles
- Ability and willingness to collaborate with other researchers (writing, presenting, fieldwork)
Meritorious qualifications for the position are:
- Good familiarity with Holocaust-related material and/or exhibitions at Kulturen in Lund, the Jewish Museum, and the Swedish History Museum regarding the Holocaust.
- Familiarity with analytical perspectives on nationalism, antisemitism, and the Holocaust
Other Information
The researcher position is for a limited period of one month with a full-time extent (100%). Start date: 2026-09-01 or by agreement. Interviews will be conducted on-site at LUX, Lund University, or via Zoom.
