We are looking for you who have experience working with operational security, security planning, and security protection in challenging environments. Are you interested in a position based at the Swedish Embassy in Pretoria with regional responsibility for the Foreign Service's security work in South Africa, Zambia, and Mozambique?
Your working day. Sweden's tomorrow.
The Swedish Embassy in Pretoria focuses on foreign and security policy, trade and promotion, as well as consular and migration-related tasks. The Swedish Embassies in Lusaka and Maputo are also part of this regional mission. Read more about the embassies at https://www.swedenabroad.se/sv/ (https://www.swedenabroad.se/sv/). The regional country responsibility may change depending on needs and the security situation in the region.
As a deployed Security Advisor, your main task is to enable the operations of Swedish authorities and the Swedish presence in the countries included in the mission, through both operational and strategic security and security protection work, including information security. This involves gathering and analyzing security information, conducting security analyses, and proposing risk-reducing measures for the authorities' operations. Security planning for field trips and incoming visits from Sweden is also central.
The work requires a broad network and close cooperation with both Swedish and host country authorities, as well as international partners. You will also work in close dialogue with the Security Unit of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Stockholm.
Your background
We are looking for you with a relevant academic degree or equivalent police/military education and several years of experience in operational security work, primarily within the public sector. You have previous experience in security planning and implementation of risk-reducing measures within physical security, information security, personnel security, and personal security. Experience in security work at a Swedish foreign mission, within the EU, UN, or another international organization is meritorious, as is experience working in the region.
Your qualities
As a Security Advisor at a foreign mission, you are required to have integrity and good judgment, be stable, independent, as well as responsive and flexible with a focus on the needs of the operations. You follow the Ministry for Foreign Affairs' ethical guidelines and are a good representative of Sweden.
If you have experience in communication and pedagogy in educational contexts, this is meritorious, as training staff and disseminating information is an important part of the mission. You communicate well in writing in Swedish and English.
You must have a Swedish B driving license at the time of application; having a C driving license is meritorious.
You must be a Swedish citizen and registered as a resident in Sweden.
Other
Start date in September 2026 or by agreement. Fixed-term employment for two years with the possibility of extension. The position is classified in a security class, and a security clearance with register check will be conducted before a decision on employment is made. The placement in Pretoria allows accompanying family members. Some training needs to be completed in Stockholm before starting.
