The Swedish Customs Agency has the mandate to limit organized and large-scale crime and prevent the illegal import of narcotics and doping substances, alcohol, tobacco, weapons, and other goods that threaten life, health, and the environment. The Swedish Customs Agency aims to reduce the number of criminal networks engaged in narcotics, alcohol, or tobacco smuggling or economic crime.

The Swedish Customs Agency consists of four operational departments: the Control Department, the Revenue Department, the Intelligence Department, and the Customs Crime Department. The Customs Crime Department is responsible for the Swedish Customs Agency's criminal investigation activities and technical intelligence gathering.

The IT and Technology Centre is responsible for and develops operations involving covert investigative measures and other technical intelligence gathering in the Swedish Customs Agency's law enforcement activities. Within the IT and Technology Centre, there is a national and central function for coordinated technical intelligence gathering.

About the position

The Central Unit for Coordinated Technical Intelligence Gathering at ITC performs minute-to-minute operational work and executes decisions regarding covert investigative measures. ITC works with special surveillance methods and IT systems focused on covert investigative measures. The tasks are operational and event-driven, and the work is carried out in close collaboration with operational surveillance activities.

As a Technical Surveillance Operator within the Customs Crime Department, you will organizationally belong to the IT and Technology Centre, which is led by a national unit manager.

Technical Surveillance Operators at ITC perform minute-to-minute operational work with special responsibility for continuously supporting the Customs Crime Department and the Intelligence Department in activities involving covert investigative measures. Methodology and technology in this area are constantly changing, and as an operator, you will be involved in challenging cross-agency development work. The work requires qualities such as speed, precision, the ability to convert information operationally, and good judgment when handling sensitive information. The employment begins with internal training.

Are you the one we are looking for?

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Education or equivalent competence within the Swedish Customs Agency's law enforcement or another criminal investigation authority
  • Experience working with covert investigative measures
  • Experience in presenting materials in writing, orally, and digitally
  • Experience making decisions under time pressure
  • Good computer skills and a willingness to learn more
  • Swedish driver's license, class B for passenger cars
  • Good knowledge of Swedish and English in speech and writing
  • Swedish citizenship

The following is meritorious:

  • Experience in surveillance, investigation, and/or analysis/intelligence
  • Technical knowledge significant for the area of work
  • Language skills beyond Swedish and English
  • Experience in the operational use of radio systems
