Department of Geriatrics, Rehabilitation Medicine and Pain Centre
We are Akademiska sjukhuset – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a county hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer healthcare to two million people in Central Sweden. Something is always happening here – a new life is born, a grandmother undergoes surgery, a colleague is hailed as a hero. Here, you will experience both tough challenges and fantastic events, within a strong community of colleagues. We welcome your application!
Our Operations
The Department of Geriatrics, Rehabilitation Medicine and Pain Centre consists of four sections: Health Professions, Pain Centre, Geriatrics, and Rehabilitation Medicine. All sections are characterized by well-functioning interprofessional collaboration, which we are very proud of. We want you to feel welcome here. As a new employee, you will be offered supervision, an introduction program, and professional networks. We place great emphasis on research and progress, both within and outside the hospital. As an employee, you are an important part of this; it is natural for you to want to develop and drive the operations forward.
We are now looking for you who are a social worker (counselor) and want to work with us in the Department of Health Professions within Medicine.
Your Role
The position is located within Infectious Diseases and Medical Inpatient Care, distributed across several different wards. The patients you will primarily encounter on the wards are elderly and/or multi-morbid patients. There is often some form of psychosocial issue where the social worker has an important task to support and advise the patient, relatives, and ward staff to facilitate discharge from the ward.
The work involves close contact with patients and staff, which places high demands on good interpersonal skills, flexibility, and a well-developed ability to collaborate. You are part of a staffing group where you, together with other social workers, support each other in daily work.
Common tasks include:
- Crisis support
- Psychosocial assessment and treatment work
- Coordinating contacts with authorities and other healthcare providers
- Supportive, advisory, and processing conversations with patients and relatives
- Supervising social work students
- Participation in development work
Your Qualifications
We are looking for you who have a degree in social work and preferably have previous experience as a social worker in healthcare. If you are a licensed healthcare social worker, this is considered an advantage.
Your Competence
Great importance is attached to personal suitability, good teamwork skills, and the ability to independently organize and plan your work. As a person, you are secure, flexible, and open. You have good self-awareness and enjoy working in teams as well as independently. In your work, you are solution-focused and reflective. It is an advantage if you have experience meeting people in crisis and grief, as well as experience working with people with cognitive impairment or in the terminal stages of life.
We believe you thrive with shorter patient contacts rather than long-term counseling, and find it exciting to come to work not knowing exactly how the day will unfold. It is important that you have the ability to work independently and can prioritize and create structure among your various tasks. The work will also involve supervising social work students, so experience/training in supervision is considered an advantage. We also consider it an advantage if you have experience working in healthcare.
We Offer
We offer a fixed-term position of 100% with a start date of 2026-06-01 or as agreed, until 2027-05-30.
As a social worker here, you are part of professional networks at the hospital and have opportunities for further development both internally and externally.
Here you will receive benefits that make a difference, read about the benefits here (https://regionuppsala.se/formaner/ (https://regionuppsala.se/formaner/)).
