Our Operations

The Outpatient Elder Psychiatry Team is a county-wide specialist unit tasked with investigating, diagnosing, treating, and assessing care levels for elderly psychiatric patients in outpatient care. The target group consists of elderly individuals with complex psychiatric conditions where symptoms are often related to aging, such as affective and psychotic disorders, often in combination with varying degrees of cognitive impairment.

The unit is also responsible for the investigation, diagnosis, treatment, and care level assessment of individuals with dementia who simultaneously suffer from severe psychiatric symptoms, BPSD (Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia), where care requires specialist interventions beyond standard dementia care.

The mandate also includes consultation, supervision, and educational initiatives towards neighboring care providers such as primary care, municipal operations, students, and specialty trainee doctors. The team is multiprofessional and consists of doctors, nurses, social workers, and administrative staff, creating good prerequisites for close collaboration around the patient.

Patients arrive at the clinic via referral or self-referral. The work also includes support and guidance for relatives in connection with the patient's illness, disability, and changed behaviors. Collaboration with the municipality and primary care is a natural and central part of the operations. Depending on needs and situations, patient meetings take place at the clinic or in the patient's home.

Your Role

As a social worker in the Outpatient Elder Psychiatry Team, you work with traditional social worker tasks, such as coordinating and conducting social investigations regarding patients' individual needs for psychosocial interventions. You support patients and their loved ones in contacting the municipality and other social authorities, and participate in psychoeducational initiatives for both patients and relatives. Together with the team, you are responsible for supervision and training for neighboring care providers and contribute to the development of working methods and care processes. Since Akademiska sjukhuset is a university hospital with mandates within healthcare, teaching, and research, you also have the opportunity to help develop care for elderly psychiatric patients. Your Qualifications

You have a degree in Social Work and enjoy working with people. Experience working in specialized psychiatry or with the elderly is meritorious. You always put the patient first and are responsible, motivated, flexible, and solution-oriented. You can work independently and in a team. A driver's license is required.

We Offer

The position is a fixed-term employment at 100% for one year, with start date by agreement. Prior to start, an extract from the crime register and suspicion register will be requested.
