About the Association
Umeå Kulturförening Humlan is a non-profit association passionate about free culture. Founded in 1981, the association is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year. We have always been present in the culture sector where we are needed; at the forefront with new ideas, in cultural policy debates, and in collaborations with civil society in Umeå. Over the years, the association has been involved in all sorts of culture; music, film, poetry, theater, clubs, and festivals. We were part of the Scharinska era, we organized the classic Umeå Open, we hosted the last gigs with Refused, and we run the cozy neighborhood festival "Ditt Kvarter." We ensure things happen, and as an association with many engaged members, we do it together!
We work by the motto "if you want it, you get it, and if you get it, you can do it" – if you have enthusiasm and will, there is always room here for development. We have an office at Klossen in Ålidhem and organize events all over the city! In recent years, the association has also run the major project AC Live, which has developed the free music scene throughout Västerbotten.
