Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked among the world's leading universities. We have approximately 46,000 students and 8,500 employees in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We are united in our strive to understand, explain, and improve our world and people's conditions.
Description of the Activity
This doctoral position is located at the Department of Sustainable Energy Systems within the Faculty of Engineering (LTH). Within Sustainable Energy Systems, we conduct research and education on the development of efficient and environmentally friendly energy systems with a specific focus on combustion engines. About 20 colleagues work at the department, two-thirds of whom are doctoral students. At the international level, we collaborate with universities, institutes, and industry in Europe, Asia, and North America.
Project Description
The Faculty of Engineering has received funding from the Swedish Energy Agency under the Vehicle Strategic Research and Innovation (FFI) program to research advanced AI methods for monitoring and control of hydrogen engines using ion current measurement. The project is experimental, which means that as a doctoral student, you will plan and conduct experimental studies in our engine lab.
Tasks and Responsibilities
The main task of a doctoral student is to pursue their doctoral education; therefore, you will be both admitted as a student and employed by Lund University.
The tasks include participation in research projects and doctoral education courses. The duties also involve participation in teaching and other departmental work, limited to a maximum of 20% of working time, such as participating in teaching and supervising degree projects and doctoral students.
A key part of the research involves investigating ion current measurement (the spark plug as a combustion sensor) as a source of information about the engine's combustion. Extensive studies of ion current measurement have been conducted with fuels other than hydrogen, but with hydrogen as fuel, there is much left to investigate. Theoretical studies will be interspersed with experimental studies.
