As part of Region Gotland, we work at the Individual and Family Care within the Social Services, providing social interventions such as counseling, support, and treatment for children and adults. Together, we create good conditions for care, support, and services throughout life.

We are now looking for contact families at the Individual and Family Care who want to make a difference for our children.

Your responsibilities

Sometimes it is difficult for parents to cope on their own. In such cases, a contact family can be of great help, both for the child and the parents. The contact family welcomes a child, or several siblings, into their home. This usually involves one or two weekends per month.

Many believe that the weekend needs to be filled with activities. However, children often prefer a weekend where the family engages in everyday activities. The most important thing is that you spend time together and that the child feels like part of the family. The contact family becomes an important part of the child's and parents' network.

Who are you?

You do not need previous experience in this specific role, but experience working with or education related to children or young people is an advantage. A contact family is an ordinary family, just with a bit extra stability. Contact families can be of different types: single adults, couples, from various cultural backgrounds and situations.

For some children, the need is for an older contact family that provides the feeling of an extra grandmother or grandfather. For other children, it is beneficial to have peers within the family. It is important that everyone in the family welcomes the child.

To become a contact family, you must go through a short investigation, which includes obtaining extracts from the police's suspicion and criminal records, social register, the Swedish Enforcement Authority (Kronofogden), and the Swedish Social Insurance Agency. This control applies to everyone who wishes to become a contact family. The investigation includes home visits and interviews to determine if you have the abilities and resources required to become a contact family.

Terms of employment:

Being a contact family is not an employment but an assignment. As a contact family, you receive an allowance as compensation for the assignment and a cost component to cover expenses for the child. This is paid out monthly. The allowance and cost reimbursement follow the guidelines of the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions.

Positions are filled continuously during the advertising period, and the duration varies depending on the case.
