Are you interested in exploring fundamental mechanisms in genomics, supported by knowledgeable and supportive colleagues in an international environment? Are you looking for an employer that invests in a sustainable working life and offers secure and advantageous working conditions? We welcome you to apply for a postdoctoral position at Uppsala University.
The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology is organized into seven research programs, all focusing on different areas within cell and molecular biology: computational biology and bioinformatics, microbiology and immunology, molecular biology, molecular biophysics, molecular evolution, molecular systems biology, and structural biology. The scientific foundation of our activities lies within biology, but our research also overlaps with other fields such as medicine, computer science, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, and physics. In total, we have over 200 employees and approximately 60 doctoral students. Read more about the department's activities at https://icm.uu.se (https://icm.uu.se).
The Deindl Lab offers an stimulating interdisciplinary environment where you will work closely with experts in biophysics, biochemistry, structural biology, and molecular biology. Our overarching goal is to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying genome-interacting processes, using a strong interdisciplinary approach that combines advanced single-molecule fluorescence imaging with a broad spectrum of structural, biophysical, and biochemical techniques. For more information about the research in the Deindl Laboratory, visit http://www.deindl-lab.com/ (http://www.deindl-lab.com/).
Job Responsibilities
The postdoctoral researcher will investigate the fundamental mechanisms behind programmable DNA recognition and genome reorganization. The project offers a unique opportunity to develop innovative experimental approaches to address central questions regarding molecular specificity, DNA remodeling, and cellular genome dynamics.
The successful candidate will combine advanced single-molecule fluorescence microscopy with a varied set of molecular biological and in vitro biochemical methods to contribute to an increased understanding of this emerging research field.
Qualifications
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a PhD in biophysics, biochemistry, physics, molecular biology, cell biology, or a related field. The PhD must be completed no later than the time of the employment decision. In accordance with eligibility requirements, candidates who have completed their PhD no more than three years before the application deadline will be prioritized. The three-year period is calculated from the application deadline and can be extended in cases of documented special circumstances, such as sick leave, parental leave, or trade union assignments.
The candidate must be able to work independently and possess excellent knowledge of English, as the position is located in an international research environment. We value personal qualities such as good teamwork skills, self-motivation, and a genuine interest in basic research, particularly in answering fundamental biological questions using quantitative approaches.
Desirable/Additional Qualifications
Previous experience and a strong interest in fluorescence microscopy, single-molecule microscopy, and related quantitative methods are highly desirable. Experience with protein-DNA complexes or nucleic acid-protein complexes, DNA recognition systems, genome engineering methods, or in vitro biochemical reconstitution will be seen as an advantage.
About the Position
The employment is fixed-term for two years with the possibility of extension to three years according to the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 5, Section 7. The position is full-time (100%). Start date: ASAP or as agreed. Location: Uppsala.
