The Department of Computer Science is one of two departments at the Faculty of Science. It is BTH's largest department with approximately 70 employees. Research is conducted at the department within the field of computer science, including sub-areas such as big data and AI, parallel computer systems, visual and interactive computer science, as well as security and distributed systems.

Job Description

The position involves research and teaching in computer science with a focus on cybersecurity at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels. The successful candidate is expected to actively participate in leading and developing the department's research and educational activities. Our research is applied and conducted in close collaboration with industry and the public sector.

Our research group in cybersecurity studies cybersecurity operations, models for forensic investigation, and architectures, designs, and techniques for the secure and efficient operation of next-generation software-defined and cloud-based networks and systems (including SDN, NFV, 5G/B5G, SmartGrids, IoT, and related areas). The group investigates systemic cybersecurity for data-driven, collaborative clouds and infrastructures, as well as security and data integrity in digital societies and secure trade in digital goods.

For this position, we are looking for a candidate with documented experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Applied cybersecurity: network security architecture and protocols, forensic investigations, protection of critical infrastructure, security architecture.
  • Security mechanisms for distributed systems, such as blockchains and distributed ledger technologies (DLT) or distributed identity management. Security in SmartGrid networks.
  • Security and performance of software-defined networks (SDN) and 5G/6G networks.
  • NextGen AI and ML in cybersecurity, particularly for security in distributed systems and security in AI-driven systems.
  • Cloud systems and their security, including management and testing of security for cloud deployments in business and/or public contexts.
  • Concepts and techniques for digital sovereignty (e.g., European cloud stack, privacy, or IP protection in the cloud).

Candidates with outstanding merits in other research areas may also be considered if they strengthen or complement the research at the department.

The research duties include conducting and publishing high-quality international research, leading and developing research activities, and applying for external research funding at national and international levels. Teaching duties include lectures, practical sessions, and course development at the undergraduate and advanced levels. Supervision of undergraduate and advanced level degree projects and doctoral students is included, as well as supervision of doctoral candidates.

The duties also include educational planning and administration, as well as participation in the department's internal work. Teaching at the undergraduate level is primarily conducted in Swedish, while teaching at the advanced and doctoral levels is primarily conducted in English. We expect a non-Swedish speaking employee to acquire sufficient Swedish skills within three years to be able to teach in Swedish and communicate with the university's units and functions in Swedish. Strong social skills and a strong work ethic are highly valued.

Qualifications

To be eligible for appointment as a university lecturer, one must have demonstrated pedagogical skill and hold a doctoral degree or equivalent scientific competence, or other professional competence that is significant given the subject content and duties of the position (Higher Education Act 4th Chapter, 4th Section).

Qualifying Competencies and Experiences

In addition to the requirements described in the job description, qualification requirements, and assessment criteria for the position, the following degrees, competencies, and experiences are considered meritorious:

  • Ability to conduct independent research of high international quality in computer science.
  • Documented experience in leading or coordinating research activities or projects.
  • Documented experience of working in national and international projects.
  • Documented experience of applied research in collaboration with relevant actors in industry or the public sector.
  • Experience in supervision at the doctoral level.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills.
  • Documented good language skills in English and Swedish.

Full-time equivalent: 100 %.
