Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities include research, as well as teaching and participation in leadership roles at the Faculty of Medicine.

Lund University offers excellent conditions for epidemiological research thanks to access to several large research databases with extensive phenotyping and biobank samples, such as Malmö Diet and Cancer, Malmö Offspring Study, Malmö Preventive Medicine, Born 1914, Good Ageing in Skåne (GÅS), and the Swedish Cardiopulmonary BioImage Study (SCAPIS).

The incumbent is expected to conduct independent research at a very high national and international level within epidemiology focusing on cardiovascular diseases. The appointment aims to strengthen and bridge strategically important research in cardiovascular epidemiology at the Faculty of Medicine, Lund University.

Teaching and the development of courses at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels also constitute an important part of the responsibilities.

The incumbent is expected to be willing to take on the role of research group leader at IKVM. In addition, the incumbent is expected to perform other duties normally associated with a professorship, such as administrative tasks and internal and external trust-based positions. The professor is to represent the subject nationally and internationally and collaborate with society at large.

Qualifications

According to the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4, Section 3, a person is qualified for appointment as a professor if they have demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical competence.

The applicant must have completed higher education pedagogical training of at least five weeks. If the incumbent is assessed to have special reasons for not having completed five weeks of higher education pedagogical training upon taking up the post, they must complete such training within two years from the date of appointment (see Lund University's Employment Regulations).

For teachers at Lund University, the general qualification requirement is to be suitable for and possess the other abilities necessary to perform the duties well.

Assessment Criteria

The applicant must demonstrate very good scientific and pedagogical competence of significance to the subject. In the assessment, particular weight will be attached to scientific competence.

The applicant's scientific competence is demonstrated through current, leading, and independent research activity at a very high international level.

Publications in international scientific journals and national and international grants obtained competitively as the main applicant will be given significant weight.

Furthermore, the applicant must demonstrate the ability to initiate and drive national and international research collaborations. The applicant should show the ability to contribute to the future development of research. Future plans and visions will be given significant weight. Current and relevant experience of translational and/or clinically close research and research collaborations is meritorious.

The applicant must demonstrate pedagogical competence relevant to the subject area, both in education and supervision at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels. This is demonstrated through the ability to plan, implement, lead, and develop education.

In addition, significant weight will be attached to demonstrated ability in academic leadership and collaboration. The applicant must show the ability and potential to lead and develop operations. This is demonstrated through documented leadership qualities, for example through leadership roles, trust-based positions, leadership training, or leadership in research environments, interdisciplinary projects, or consortia. Leadership ability also includes good communicative and collaborative competence, the ability to promote employees' professional development, and to contribute to a good working environment. Experience of leadership in international contexts is meritorious.

Weight will also be attached to skill in participating in organizational development and collaboration and the ability to interact with the surrounding society. This is demonstrated through experience and ability to communicate research results and to create collaborations with researchers in different disciplines as well as with relevant actors outside academia. The ability to disseminate knowledge and to contribute to implementing research results in society or clinical practice is meritorious.
