Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked as one of the world's leading universities. With approximately 46,000 students and 8,500 employees across Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö, we are united in our pursuit to understand, explain, and improve our world and the human condition.

This position will be placed at either the Department of Law within the Faculty of Law or the Faculty of Social Sciences (Socialhögskolan).

Responsibilities

We want you to develop and make the most of your time at Lund University and the Department of Law or the Faculty of Social Sciences. As an Assistant Professor, you will have the opportunity to focus long-term on the research you are passionate about. The holder of this position will be able to dedicate the majority of their time to independent research in collaboration with strong research environments, research infrastructures, and international platforms.

In addition to conducting research, you will also develop your pedagogical skills, your ability to collaborate and communicate externally, and your proficiency in the Swedish language during your tenure as an Assistant Professor. Throughout your employment, you will be an active member of your department and participate in its diverse activities.

One of your first tasks will be to lead an innovative research project funded by the Swedish Research Council. The duties will primarily involve research in collaboration with practitioners in crime prevention. Teaching is also part of the employment. You will work within the framework of the strategic research area Building Resilience in Crime Prevention (BRiC): Advancing Professional Knowledge of Child Vulnerability, Drug Markets and Emerging Technologies, driven by the Faculties of Law and Social Sciences. BRiC is a unique collaboration between researchers and professional actors within social services and the justice system (police, prosecutors, courts, and probation services). Starting from three interconnected challenges – child vulnerability, drug markets, and emerging technologies – BRiC aims to understand, explain, and improve professional competence and organizational prerequisites for crime prevention work.

Qualifications for Appointment as Assistant Professor

You must have completed a doctoral degree or possess equivalent scientific competence in social work, sociology, criminology, or another social science subject, or alternatively, a doctoral degree in law (juris doctor) in criminal law or public law, or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a doctoral degree in criminal law or public law, or have achieved equivalent scientific competence. Priority will primarily be given to applicants who have completed their doctoral degree within the last 5 years, calculated from the application deadline, unless special reasons exist. Special reasons normally refer to parental leave and sick leave (see Chapter 4, Section 4a of the Higher Education Ordinance).

  • Has strong pedagogical skills
  • Has current experience in research in criminal law, public law, social work, sociology, criminology, or another social science subject outside of Sweden

  • Has good communication skills
  • Has a very high level of English in both speech and writing
  • Has good motivation and the ability to learn Swedish
  • Has not received a salary or scholarship from Sweden since December 31, 2022
