Unit Manager for the Statistics Unit
Do you want to lead the development in an organization where data, analysis, and AI are increasingly influencing governance and decision-making? We are looking for a unit manager for the statistics unit who wants to drive the transition towards more data-driven practices, increased automation, and a strategic use of data throughout the agency.
About the job
The Swedish Pensions Agency's analysis department investigates, studies, evaluates, and describes the effects of the pension system for pension savers, retirees, and society, and is responsible for the agency's commitments as an official statistics authority and other statistical production in the area.
The department performs forecasts, analyses, and actuarial calculations. To carry out the agency's analysis assignments, the department has extensive access to statistics and data, as well as several models and other tailored IT tools. The department consists of approximately 45 employees distributed across four units: data warehouse and decision support unit, statistics unit, investigation and actuarial unit, and capital management and actuarial unit.
The statistics unit plays a central role in producing in-depth analyses of the pension system and its management, as well as in developing the agency's data-driven capabilities. We are now looking for a unit manager who wants to lead the work towards increased automation of statistical production, deeper data-driven analysis, and a growing use of machine learning models and AI in the operations, including for predictive analysis and risk identification.
The unit employs about twelve specialists in statistics and analysis. Tasks include the production and quality assurance of statistics, analyses, delivery of register data, requirement capture, and development of the agency's databases. The unit works with several of Sweden's most extensive individual-based data sets and analyses that underpin decisions with significant impacts on the economy and many people's daily lives. The unit is also responsible for the agency's official statistics on public pensions and pension-related benefits.
As a unit manager, you will lead the work to maintain a high-quality operation and develop effective and purposeful working methods. You will initiate and drive development efforts that strengthen the unit's proactive analytical capabilities and contribute to ensuring that data is used as a well-integrated support in governance, operational activities, and follow-up throughout the agency. You will be responsible for analytical methods, statistical production, and how data is converted into insights, in close collaboration with the department's other units and the agency's other operations. The unit has several special assignments, including in the analysis work to reduce incorrect payments.
As a unit manager, you will be part of the analysis department's management team and contribute to the strategic development of the department's overall activities.
Your profile
You possess excellent personal qualities and well-documented leadership skills, good collaboration ability, are quality-conscious, structured, and focused on development and results. You also have a good ability to express yourself well and pedagogically in both speech and writing, as well as knowledge of quantitative analysis.
As a leader, you apply a coaching, development-oriented, and trust-based approach where strong employee engagement is a given. You have the ability to drive development and improvement, initiate change efforts, and contribute to long-term operational benefits. You are strategically and analytically inclined, have a digital mindset, and a good understanding of and interest in modern analytical methods, including machine learning models, AI, and automation, as well as the ability to actively and constructively contribute to the overall efficiency and collaborative climate of the workplace.
We are looking for someone who has:
- An academic degree that the employer assesses as relevant for the position and the unit's operations.
- Good knowledge of statistics and data analysis.
- Current experience as a manager with budget and personnel responsibility.
- Good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written.
It is meritorious if you have:
- Experience in driving change or development work within analysis, data, or statistics operations.
- Experience in leading knowledge-intensive teams within data, statistics, or analysis.
