Are you a lawyer specializing in administrative and municipal law with a particular interest in the education sector? Then this could be the position for you.

The School Administration is now looking for a lawyer for the unit of authority exercise and legal matters.

The School Administration is responsible for the city's municipal schools and works to create good conditions for students' learning and development. As a lawyer with us, you contribute to legally secure decisions and well-functioning processes that are important for the schools' core mission.

About the assignment

As a lawyer with us, you will work with issues related to municipal and administrative law connected to the school board's mission and the school's operations. You provide legal support to colleagues, managers, principals, and other staff and participate in both operational and strategic assignments. In your role, you are central to ensuring that schools can focus on their core mission while contributing to legally secure decisions and well-functioning processes.

The work is varied and includes, among other things:

  • Providing legal support in matters of authority exercise
  • Handling appeals and preparing statements for supervisory authorities
  • Providing support in matters of transparency and confidentiality as well as in the release of documents
  • Investigating complaints about education directed at the principal level
  • Conducting legal investigations, preparing consultation responses and decision-making materials for the board
  • Coordinating whistleblower investigations together with the administrative controller, HR controller, and the city's whistleblower function
  • Quality assuring authority exercise performed at the unit and monitoring legal developments

You work closely with the unit's lawyers, case officers, and development leaders. The role involves both independent work and teamwork, where tasks are divided based on competence and responsibility.

About us – the unit for Authority Exercise and Legal Matters

The School Administration's unit for Authority Exercise and Legal Matters is responsible for authority exercise at the administrative central level, provides legal support in various matters, and investigates complaints directed at the principal level. The unit is characterized by an open atmosphere, good collaboration, and engagement. It has a good reputation among those we serve and has achieved positive results in employee surveys.

We are located in an activity-based office at Gamlestads torg 5, which provides good opportunities for both collaboration and work in quiet environments depending on the task.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A law degree and good knowledge of municipal operations and their governance.
  • Experience in municipal law and administrative law, for example from court, authority, or politically governed organization (municipality or region)
  • Experience in qualified advisory and case management work at the central administrative level, within a government agency or equivalent

For the position, it is advantageous if you have experience working with the transparency of public documents and confidentiality, whistleblower cases, and school legal issues. It is also advantageous if you have good digital competence.

To succeed in the role, you need to combine independence with good collaboration skills. You enjoy working in a team and developing through collegial learning, while also being able to prioritize and structure your own tasks.

You are analytical, meticulous, and solution-oriented, have high integrity, and can communicate clearly and guidingly, both verbally and in writing. Your contribution is central to supporting the operations, ensuring legally secure processes, and helping schools focus on their core mission.
