Naturvetarna is a politically independent trade union, representing approximately 37,000 members with an academic degree in natural science subjects. Naturvetarna coaches, represents, and supports members throughout their careers, regardless of the sector they work in, whether they are employed, job seekers, students, managers, or entrepreneurs.

Naturvetarna is a trade union within Saco, Sweden's central organization for academics, which includes 21 unions. You will report to the head of the Department for Market and Social Policy Impact. The department consists of 15 colleagues who work project- and campaign-based, in teams, where different competencies from the department are included.

Job responsibilities

As a statistician at Naturvetarna, you will be responsible for managing the union's statistics and making it accessible and understandable for both internal and external stakeholders. In your role, you will plan, conduct, and analyze surveys, as well as produce and present statistics related to the union's members. You are an important resource for the entire organization and contribute your knowledge to drive development for natural scientists, both through support for negotiation activities and advocacy work. This includes participating in advocacy campaigns and contributing analyses and ideas that strengthen the union's positions towards the press, politicians, parties, and other stakeholders. You will be responsible for the survey tool and salary statistics program, as well as working with the membership register, which includes producing statistics and reports on membership development and changes in the labor market.

You will have overall responsibility for statistical calculations, quantitative analyses, and data collection, where you will largely work independently. At the same time, you will be part of various projects, and together with your colleagues, you will initiate different types of statistical analyses that can increase the value for members and enhance engagement for the issues the union advocates. Your role includes, among other things:

• Having overall responsibility for statistical calculations, quantitative analyses, and data collection

• Producing, analyzing, and visualizing membership statistics and transforming data into clear presentations and infographics that create insights and can be used in the organization's communication and advocacy work

• Managing the survey tool and salary statistics program

• Planning and coordinating surveys, both in terms of question construction and analysis of results

• Contributing and being a project participant in other projects within the union's operations

Education, experience, and personal qualities

• Post-secondary education in mathematics/statistics/economics or equivalent experience in similar tasks

• Good knowledge and experience in statistical calculations, quantitative analyses, and maintenance of statistics

• Interest in labor market issues, conditions issues, and how data can contribute to developing and strengthening member benefits

• Very good skills in Excel and work experience in Power BI or similar programs

• Excellent knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written

• Experience in communicating about statistics internally and externally is an advantage

• Experience with surveys and question construction is an advantage

• Experience in statistical programming, particularly Python, DAGS code, and R is an advantage
