Summer Clerkship at the Court of Appeal for Lower Norrland

The Court of Appeal for Lower Norrland is one of the six courts of appeal in the country. The court's main task is to review the cases and matters that are appealed from the five district courts in Västernorrland, Gävleborg, and Jämtland counties.

The court is located in a beautiful and creative environment in central Sundsvall and has approximately 55 employees, of which about half are legal professionals. The court is divided into a judicial department and an administrative unit that is shared with the Administrative Court in Sundsvall. The judicial department is led by a chief judge. The department also includes three deputy chairpersons, ten judges, about six acting assessors, eight clerks, nine court administrators, and two registrars.

In Sundsvall and nearby towns, about 110,000 people live. In addition to the court, Sundsvall has a university and several government agencies that collaborate within the framework of the agency network. There are good public transport connections to and from Sundsvall.

The work involves

As a summer clerk, your work will include participating in the preparation of cases and matters, attending hearings, writing proposals for judgments and decisions, and conducting legal research.

Qualifications

The criteria for applying for the position of summer clerk are that you have passed at least up to and including the sixth semester of the law program. You must have completed procedural law as well as criminal and civil law in the law program. You should have at least one semester left of the law program after the employment period.

You have good grades from completed parts of the law education as well as good knowledge of the Swedish language in both spoken and written form. Other important qualities are attention to detail, analytical skills, good teamwork ability, and the ability to organize and plan your work.

Great emphasis will be placed on your personal letter and how you justify your interest in working as a summer clerk at our court. After selection, shorter phone interviews will be conducted. Since we want to give as many as possible insight into the court's operations, we will primarily prioritize applicants who do not have previous experience from similar work in the court.
