Researcher Position in Organic Chemistry and Mass Spectrometry

About Us
The Department of Medical Sciences is a large clinical institution with approximately 250 employees and over 900 individuals affiliated through the Academic Hospital. The department has a broad research profile with strong research groups in various areas. The research takes place in close proximity to the clinical activities at the Academic Hospital and encompasses both fundamental studies on disease causes and the development and evaluation of improved diagnostics and new treatment methods. You will belong to an interdisciplinary research group with extensive experience in mass spectrometry, bioinformatics, biostatistics, and AI. The group has a strong publication history, and our latest research has been published in journals such as Nature Communications, BMC Medicine, and npj Digital Medicine (2025). Job Responsibilities
The role of the researcher includes:
- Synthesis, purification, and identification of various chemical classes
- Developing and implementing advanced LC-HRMS methods (both targeted and untargeted)
- Maintenance of instrumentation and other upkeep
- Designing sample preparation strategies for various biological matrices, primarily related to gut microbiota and environmental exposure
- Analyzing biological samples from large population cohorts
- Performing work according to GLP guidelines
- Contributing to standard operating procedures, contracts, and orders
- Contributing to the infrastructure for organic chemistry
- Contributing to scientific publication and presenting results at seminars and conferences
- Teaching (up to 20%) in organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and bioanalysis
Qualifications
- PhD in organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, or a related field
- At least 3 years of experience in multi-step organic synthesis, including purification and structural identification of various chemical classes using: 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy
- LC-MS and other advanced analytical techniques
- Experience in high-resolution mass spectrometry based on Orbitrap technology.
- Documented experience working with multiple mass spectrometric platforms, including triple quadrupole instruments.
- Documented experience with HPLC methods
- Experience in method development in metabolomics or related areas
- Good familiarity with the analysis of biological matrices such as blood
- Skill in identifying biomarkers and interpreting mass spectrometry data
- Fluent in Swedish
- Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written
- Ability to work independently while thriving in collaboration with others
- Extensive experience in LC-MS analysis and troubleshooting.
- Long-term practical experience with analytical instrumentation and laboratory operations.
- Strong knowledge of GMP and GLP guidelines, particularly in relation to clinical research projects
- Documented track record of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Desirable/Additional Qualifications
- Knowledge in microbiota-related metabolite analysis
- Documented record of patents or contributions to intellectual property
- Previous supervision of students or junior researchers
- Very good recommendations from previous employers

About the Employment
